We were once adventurous happy risk takers that knew that nothing good in life came without taking a risk – or two. We were the generation that said: “try everything once and everyone twice.” We rode motorcycles (remember when there were no Jet skis?) with great abandon (not to mention no helmets) we slept overnight on the beach and never worried about consequences (okay, so we were in a slightly altered state at the time). We walked barefoot through the park because we did have a sense of the ridiculous. What happened? Well, I guess that age set in. But that does not mean that these years cannot be the best – savored like fine wine that is well aged? Just what is so bad about feeling good and being happy?
Okay, so I’m no longer interested in jumping out of airplanes without a parachute, but I am not ready to retire to the rocker either. Yes, I prefer B.B. King to Lady Gaga – I’ll give you that one.
But more to the point and simply put, I think that age gives us the wisdom to savor the small and the important. I think that age gives us more patience and temperance. I think age also tells us that we won’t be here forever so we better do more than just stop and smell the roses – we should take pictures so we can remember the moment longer!
Well, if humor, patience, honesty and integrity are important to you, we just found out that we do have a lot in common.
