Date someone special from Orinda, United States. I would like to find a man who shares my interests in an active lifestyle (hopefully both tennis and hiking), loves the outdoors and has liberal political beliefs. I am looking for someone with a bright, inquisitive mind who is still interested in learning and growing by experiencing new things. And a great sense of humor and the ability to laugh at life are very important!
I'm a low-maintenance type - don't like shopping, primping, gossiping, cleaning, or cooking (unless you're cooking with me). I can't understand why people get facelifts instead of giving that money to help a kid get cleft palate surgery. I can be brought to tears by an unfolding leaf or the hoot of an owl in the darkness, I love sitting in front of a roaring fire with a glass of wine and the person I love, and I think that everyone needs to try to leave the world a little better than it was before they got there. My friends would describe me as tough, adventuresome, stubborn, funny and extremely smart. I can be hard to get to know, but there's a very soft heart hidden inside. I want to be your partner, not your housekeeper; your equal and your soulmate.
I have been married twice (once for 13 years and once for 16 years) and have a 27-year-old son who is in his first year of law school at Duke. I worked for around 35 years in the medical industry (diagnostics) and my last couple of jobs were as CEO of start-up companies which were funded by venture capital firms. Before that I was with large companies where I ran divisions. I "retired" early, around 3 1/2 years ago.
I have an MBA from Harvard and an undergraduate degree from Duke University. I started my career as a CPA for one of the big accounting firms in Boston.
Although I was born on Long Island, my family moved to North Carolina when I was 4, and I grew up there (and, yes, I do have a Southern accent). When I was around 25 I moved to Boston with my first husband, and I lived there off and on (with transfers to California for 2.5 years and Ohio for 4.5 years) until 5 years ago, when I moved out to California for a job. I love California and hope to stay here.
I am a strong, independent woman who has been living on my own for the past 11 years. But I miss having someone to care about and do things with and would love to find the right man to share life's adventures with. I love the beauty of the world, the lessons to be learned from a good novel, the warmth and joy of a dog, and I still believe in true love.
