I truly believe there is someone for everyone. Now, at the risk of putting forth a less than romantic profile (that is step two) I realize that relationships need to be based on a certain degree of clarity, and then hope it is matched by that ingredient we call chemistry--not an easy task in private, let alone in this virtually public forum, but I venture forth despite the odds.
I feel strongly about contributing to the world in which we live, in whatever way works for each of us. I am enamored by the physical universe with its diversity and majesty, especially water and gardens and appreciate sharing this with one who is like-minded. I am drawn to ancient literature, philosophy, museums and galleries, and especially the narrative ability of art. I have lived in Europe, enjoyed it very much and like going back, especially to Florence. I am very interested in thoughts; what I think informs who I am and what I do. I am also intrigued by ideas, and words. Ideas themselves, besides being inspiring (if good ideas) are the beginning of any adventure or activity, both of which I'm pretty open to. But on a lighter side, I like to dance around my house just for the sheer enjoyment of doing so. I champion the ability of children to get over their sorrows and get on with the business of enjoying their lives.
You, as a potential partner/husband do not need to have the same background and interests that I have; intersecting knowledges lead to more fun. Yet there does need to be a deep level of understanding and respect, and it seems that this is furthered by commonalities in significant areas. You do need to be smart, sophisticated and engaged with our postmodern world. Retirement is fine, depending on what is going on. Although I love to curl up or stretch out from time to time, couch potatoes are not fine.
I have recently filed my dissertation, (I relocated to northern CA 5 years ago to do graduate work in Humanities with critical studies in material culture) thus I emerge from a tunnel and so look forward to sharing my newly discovered comparative freedom. Meanwhile I have a contract to deliver a manuscript for a book in November, and want to get back to playing my piano and gardening and simply having fun. Besides the symphony, the ballet and the opera I have just tried kayaking and found it to be exhilarating. I used to love playing tennis, and even longer ago, riding horses. It would be interesting, perhaps, to revisit either or both of these, but mostly I would like to be visited by a handsome (I see handsome in words and deeds), kind, enjoyable man.Though life is pretty great as it is right now, I know that it gets even better when a good relationship is added to the equation. Intelligence, kindness and a highly developed sense of humor are terrific qualities to exhibit and enjoy. Empathy is a wonderful attribute, and the desire and the ability to talk are pretty important.
I realize how easy and tempting it is to fabricate or stretch the truth in one's profile. I find it to be a 'turn off,' when I discover that the man sitting opposite me has scummed to this. I believe that integrity must extend to the search as well as to the 'find'; lies on the first level do not bode well for truth in the second.
