My working career was with the Air Force Reserve and Civil Service. Retiring after 36 years as a Chief Master Sergeant and an Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent.
Leisure time is spent enjoying most outdoor sports and activities, some more then others. They include Scuba Diving, Skydiving, snow and water skiing, fishing, hunting, camping, hiking and flying as a private pilot. Traveling is one of my passions, being fortunate to have worked for the Air Force, I had a chance to travel to distant lands and would like the chance to continue in that adventure. I also own a fifth wheel and like traveling around the US. In the winter, some time is spent exploring the deserts of Nevada and Arizona as a part time Snow Bird.
To fill in the rest of the time I own a small ranch in Newcastle and enjoy a past time of raising sheep and gardening.
Quite activities include going out to dinner and a movie (most any movie works), plays, musicals, Christmas specials, and fireworks on the 4th of July. Of course, a movie and popcorn while snuggling on the couch is always a cheap alternative.

I’ve been described as both an outdoors-type and a geek, (polite for nerd?), and while I enjoy outdoor activities and the related solo sport occasionally, family, friends, and (especially) remembering others less fortunate are central I believe in keeping one’s balance; I am a sponsor for disadvantaged children through Children International, participant in the Fremont Police volunteer program (waiting list), and registered Red Cross blood donor.

While what you see is what you get, it needn't be all; a boyish grin in a stable monogamous guy who finds joy in holding a door, standing, and pulling the chair for a lady. But what to bring a smile Madame? If “geeky-outdoors-type” doesn’t, pair the thought with a sense of humor and consider yours truly is likely to ask when you least expect it something incredibility inept like: “Let's hike a deep-forest trail to a windy snow covered high-ridge and look at Saturn’s rings through a telescope."

* A Post Scriptum; I recently heard a podcast about On-Line Dating by two very bright women researchers, (incidentally Match was pretty much rated #1), and they spoke a little about what their research had showed as the single issue most raised by women: the sometimes s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g of profile facts regarding height, weight, and (can you believe this?) attachment status. Having heard that, (and if you’re still reading), I thought the least I could do would be to confirm those clearly: height is about 5' 10", weight is 170 to 175 lbs. with shoes and cell phone, and for better or for worse no ex's, mistresses, kids, latent girlfriends, or hidden baggage other-anything in a closet. At least some of my photos are very recent because I know that can be important, (even though I would rather have a root canal and it shows, -not a photo-guy and yes I do smile, or grin as it were), they include weekend excursions, work (-I don’t own the Ford Cobra [rats], just share an office with someone who does and no he won’t let me borrow it), one of my EX-BMW motorcycles (300K miles and 30 years with no accidents, wow -gave up riding but miss it), and the exact spot I spent so many days surfing before coming to North Ca. . . .

I’m omg 60 years old, but I lucked out: I’m pretty much as fit as I’ve ever been, I’m still active and curious, still exploring and learning. I walk a lot, ride my bike a lot, take the stairs, run, do yoga. Read. Write. I love extended speculative conversation.
I’m musical: I sing and play guitar. I’m an inept but enthusiastic ballroom dancer. I’m a foodie – I love wine, I like to cook and entertain. (On a small scale these days: I live in a cottage.) I love reading aloud – if you hate being read to, it will become a Relationship Issue – just sayin’. I like being in stage plays, though my work doesn’t allow for it much. Love European travel. Am perennially whittling away at some foreign language or other. Like to do bodywork: I’ve given a million and seven backrubs over the years and hardly ever been shot at.
Temperament: Quietish. Shyish. In large groups, I tend to hang back. I open up in groups of a half-dozen or fewer. I’m an observer – it goes with the writing – and a reader of moods and nuances. I love kids and they tend to love me. Ditto dogs and cats; don’t know yet about your horse or gecko.
I like to laugh, and I can usually make other people laugh, sometimes even intentionally. My sense of humor is a bit offbeat, I think, leaning on lots of puns and (I’m told) cognitive dissonance. (No, I don’t know what that means either.)
I’m basically disengaged from mass entertainment: I don’t own a TV – I miss football and soccer and PBS, but oh well – and I rarely go to movies. That hot new pop song? I’ve never heard it. Most weeks, I have no idea who the beautiful people on the cover of People magazine even are, much less who they’re making babies with. You might change my mind about movies, but I’m pretty settled that for me no TV is the best TV. (Especially during election years.)
I like concerts and live theater, though, and have recently discovered that standing-room at the Opera is the best entertainment bargain in the Bay Area.
Musical taste? Mostly classical these days, especially Early Music, but also Beatles/Stones/CSNY/REM-ish pop – the KFOG mix, basically, I mean, it’s the stuff I play and sing myself – plus most genuinely ethnic musics. (Hybrids, not so much.) - I’m looking forward to going to Lark Camp later this summer, if that rings any bells with you.
My work is in – go ahead and yawn – IT. Specifically, I’m a database administrator. Given my inexplicable lack of boundless wealth, I like computer work qua work – it suits me fine – but I’ve got a pretty dry-eyed appreciation for our contemporary wave of technological innovation: Anyone who thinks the Internet is a greater advance than running water is kinda nuts, it seems to me.
I’m a relationship guy. My happiest times – I’ve had more than my share of luck in this – have been the times when I’ve found someone I can be close to pretty much 24/7. (No, of course I don’t mean a continual yak-fest: Sitting or lying together reading counts as together-time, especially if, say, our elbows touch.) I love touching, hugging, and snuggling – feel free to extrapolate. Kissing is another thing that’s better than the Internet.
Who I’m looking for: Someone smart, funny, energetic, adventurous, grounded, thoughtful, sensual, adult. Active in mind and body. Cosmopolitan. An intellect both firm and limber – able to connect the dots from flirting to philosophy to Furtwangler to filo pastry all over the same cup of tea. Is a smidge of naughtiness too much to ask?
