Date single man from California, United States. My life at this point in time seems to revolve around a 30 mile walk week. I was, as usual, being my helpful self, and low and behold here I am the steward of my 2 new companions. It all started about 13 months ago when I said " OK, I'll watch after him, but you 2 better find him a home SOON"! I live in an apartment, for 25 years, with a small backyard and a smaller front yard, both unfenced. I am holding the dog because he needs to become accustomed to the new societal situations ahead of him. My goal is; "though I may be the 5th home this pour little puppy has faced, there WILL NOT be a 7TH". I assumed that the actual rescuer and the new dog owner of these 2 littermates were, as they said they would be, actively seeking out a homeplace for this responsibility that they have left with me. I have to admit that it took me most of 3 1/2 weeks just for us to become comfortable enough with the situation of, "US", even though he chose to be with me. I'm getting antsy wondering why I have only heard about 1 or 2 possibilities instead of here are half of a dozen distinct "we want him" phone numbers. Of course it really sounded something like this. "I'm so sorry. I'm going out of town and was wondering if you could watch this other dog also for just a week or 2 more...please". So, here comes the sibling. The first pup and I were just starting to become comfortable with one and other and all of the sudden here is, "brother" "overnight" "longer" and then I believe that I heard Beau say something like "you and I are packing up together and I do not like the idea of you packing up with anyone else but me". I earnestly explained my loyalties about packing up with anyone else. This is family and that means something to us. Although opinions may have been shared in a somewhat unwilling nature at first, it took another month before Arrow found his way clear to joining into pack life. With Beau's relatives acceptance of course. All through this month I am now actively searching for a good home; with kids, and animals, and acres for these 2 deserving mutts to play on. The problem has much more to do with Arrow, a very special dog, than Beau. Also, I was hoping to keep them together if at all possible. This puppy tale did not begin very well. 1st 2 months with mom, where their tails were shortened; then 4 months in a cage living in their 1 and 2, harassed by the unsupervised children responsible for their care. Cage cleaned with hoses while the puppies torment inside becomes the boys version of fun. Tools too! Fortunately, an angel visiting, giving aide to the elderly grandmother whose pleadings to save these poor little creatures before ... and the angel, not at first, but eventually realizing how hopeless their situation was becoming; she swooped down and enveloped them in her wings and whisked them away to safety. This angel has a secret identity as a housewife with a husband and a child of her own. Animals too, and these are 2 more animals too many; their next home is for them to become deer, raccoon, and coyote chasers. A first time dog owner dealing with 2 high energy dogs with special needs. At twenty months old they need security, so, we are a pack now. The dogs come in to keep me company whenever they wish, but they spend the good majority of their time out in the front. They know every one of god's creatures that pass by, and recognize them as friends, mostly. My neighbors probably let me slide because I pick up all of the dog dew all the way around the corner in both directions on both sides of the street. I have tried to raise them to be small town dogs, polite and good natured. I am blessed being within walking distance of the redwoods, the river, and the ocean. Of course the dogs travel very well, as do I. 3 weeks on the road to see my 4th grandson be born in Minnesota last Oct-Nov and they handled themselves pretty well for visitors. Well, thanks for lending me an eye. Looking forward to sharing a few more stories with you soon. R
