Poet, scientist, counselor, author, musician and mathematician trained at Caltech, Brandeis and Harvard, I've abandoned academia and much of what I've been taught in search of my soul. I value wisdom over intellect, guilelessness to craft, passion above mediocrity, and a quiet, principled spirit to the shallow modern persona. I play the trombone, am a tournament chess player, and work out regularly. I've done a lot of meditation, therapy (classical, Primal, Reichian, Core Energetics), spiritual groups (Yogananda, Yogeshwar Muni, Saniel Bonder, Adyashanti), and self-exploration (macrobiotics, Scientology [left running], Rolfing, HAI, David Deida, and Shamanic De-Armoring). I’m financially well off, own a lovely 3BR home in the West Portal area of SF, and have no debt or mortgage.
Although the brash, east coast energy of my New York and Boston roots is comfortable and familiar, I value natural refinement and reserved passion in a woman. This does not mean that I need you to be inexpressive or repressed; it means that I appreciate that still waters run deep. I'm semi-retired; when I work I'm self-employed as a consultant, counselor and author. I write, bind and publish personalized, fine art books, and have started printing, laminating and mounting large (up to 4x8 feet) hi-resolution astronomical photographs in my home studio. Skilled in communication, I see others deeply and love beauty in all things, particularly in a woman. I know myself and women fairly well, have a great deal to give–and I do.
The world of men, women and children is full of ideas: ideas from parents and childhood, of happiness and success, fear and separation, victory and conquest, marketplace, tribe and nation, and from having been civilized. Trying to live out these ideas is being lost in a dream. They have no reality, essence or fulfillment in themselves. Love is not an idea; it is who we are and all that is. Date single man from California, United States. OK, 200 characters. Hmmm; I should be able to say something meaningful. In all likelihoood, something deep and meaningful.
This is tough though. I'm just a regular guy; which, of course, means that deep expressions of who I am and what's meaningful to me are sorta close to pulling teeth. But starting somewhere is required. So, here it goes.
I am a charming, lovable, cuddly, loyal, romantic, fun, funny (well, maybe, humorous), reasonably successful guy who may have never fully grown up. I am blessed to really 'have a life' and live it with a positive outlook. I love my family and my kids (2) and they are important to me. We talk regularly although talking to my son can be tedious if he's in the middle of a crucial video game moment. But it's all OK 'cause he's got his feet on the ground and knows what and where he's headed. I can say the absolute same about my daughter as well.
I had a great job for a long time in the upper midwest; took a gamble on a super opportunity; lost everything when the crash hit, and, later, while helping out an old friend in CA, ended up making it permanent and moving to SoCal. Loving it so far, except for the part where my marital status changed very suddenly and unexpectedly (ok, the icky baggage is on the table and, yes, we had a great marriage for every day of 25 yrs before God came up with a different plan).
I love sunsets, my friends, good food, good wine, and good people to share them with. I have a couple of Snoodles which is a lot like a couple of 2 year olds only harder to keep up with because they have 4 legs- apiece. I am passionate about many things, do like those touchy, cuddly times and may have a tendency to fall back into the "I'm just a guy" mode during some of those moments. (Hey, we're old enough that this should not come as a surprise.) I can handle those evening foot rubs and cuddling and holding, but sometimes consider those as extra point candidates.
I enjoy sitting on the deck with a glass of wine. (Well, maybe, almost anywhere with a glass of wine.) I love travel and enjoy museums and wineries and, yes, even some shopping. I enjoy my golf, try to keep up my walking, believe in God's plan, and will always miss my best friend of 25 years even though I'm ready and willing to make space in my heart for a new best friend and love.
I am prone to the occasional Random Act of Kindness like sneaking a 20 to the clerk for the grocery bill of the person behind me who's clearly counting pennies; paying the bill for a person alone at IHOP on a Sunday morning after church; or buying a bunch of movie junk food for the kids counting their change to share a small popcorn (just slip $$ to the cashier; stand back and watch). OK, I have a bit of mischief in me even for the good deeds.
I'm into most music, new country, jazz, rock, and classical are my tops. Almost anything B’way. Good stuff like Wicked, Les Mis, or Phantom touch my core as do many of the country songs I love. Pretty much the same can be said about me and movies except being a guy I do lean to the action stuff a tad more often. Horror flicks are out. I have enough life and living that I really don't see a need to scare myself as entertainment too. And, yes, I shed a tear or 5 at tear jerkers, or maybe any touching moment, but way still enjoy Shrek and Potter and kids movies, etc.
I know that doing things with someone special is a whole lot more fun than doing it alone. I also know there's a whole lot more about me, but then I'd use up all my cup o' coffee, glass o' wine, quick dinner talk and we would have no reason to actually meet and visit.
So I'm stopping here in the interest of hopefully leaving something interesting for later. I'm approachable and easy to be around. Say 'Hi' sometime.
