Both parents served in WWII and are buried in the Veterans’ section. Although my mother was an attorney’s daughter and all of 5’2” and hundred pounds, she felt she should do her part and joined the WAC. This is where I come in. She met Dad in Detroit and I am now part of that history. I was always different, questioning everything. My intellectual curiosity got me into trouble a few times in Junior High School, but was welcomed in high school and college. I was determined to be able to take care of myself; so, I chose to earn a degree from a top engineering school in math and was hired straight out of school by IBM in New York. This became my first great adventure as I spent the first ten years enjoying all that Manhattan had to offer. In my thirties, I decided I wanted to make more money and started climbing the corporate ladder before they told me about the glass ceiling. I actually went through a vent and got there anyway. In the mid-eighties, I made a personal decision that took me to San Francisco. I bought a forty-foot boat which I took out every weekend. Just shy of my forty-second birthday, I returned to Florida where my Dad lived and my son was born. Everyone on both sides of the family was shocked. For the last eleven years, I have lived in Roseville. I divorced in 2001. My son is at UC Davis with graduate school planned on graduation. We are very close and he respects my opinion in every arena except for buying cars. He doesn’t seem to think I do well in this area.
