Instead, I'll write a bit about who I am, at the risk of sounding self-involved, and see if anything resonates for you. Sound good?
Growing up in Maine and Massachusetts, I still pinch myself after 12 years in California when looking out my window at a beautiful Belmont Shore morning, or when joining friends for a weekend in Palm Springs. Or at a jazz club listening to Luciana Souza singing, or at the Hollywood Bowl hearing Tom Petty or Tony Bennett. Or roaming the halls of SFMOMA or the streets of Montparnasse. Or on a hike in the hills with friends and dogs, or a bike ride along the coast. I'm always amazed at my good fortune and the amazing adventure my life has become, and can't wait to see who I meet to share it with.
Yeah, you can tell from that last comment that I'm a romantic at heart. Flashes of cynicism, perhaps, but then I listen to Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane perform "Lush Life," or read an Edna St. Vincent Millay sonnet, or see a Rodin sculpture, and any semblance of cynicism disappears. Candlelight, good red wine, the scent of a perfume or sweep of a sundress in summer tends to have a similar effect, especially if we're building a clear connection together.
I love my work as a professor of English--and no, that doesn't mean I'll correct your grammar or show up to a date with red pen in hand. No need to be anxious on that score. I read regularly and have a stack of novels (from Charlotte Bronte to Michael Connelly) on the bedside table, and I try to write whenever I can (but lately that has been more grant writing and less creative writing). More importantly, I enjoy talking about shared films, novels, theater, jazz performances, tv—yeah, I’m just as passionate about discussing an episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” or “Mad Men” as I am a South Coast Rep. performance.
One of the best aspects of my work is seeing my first-generation college students head off to Cal or SC or Cal State, finally becoming confident in their own potential for success. Education is important to me not as a cultural expectation, but for the things it helps us achieve with our lives. People who define new dreams and challenges, and then set out to achieve them in positive, life-affirming ways, are really the kind of people I tend to surround myself with.
So, now that I've rambled on and on, if any of this resonates for you, let's talk.

Well I would say I'm pretty committed to work, almost to a fault but in the past few years have learned to balance work with life so I'm in a pretty good place right now. I'm definitely a relator who cares about others and always willing to help or offer a hand when needed. I like to cook but know that I'm not a Food Network Star by any means.
I grew up in Wa state and left for So Cal after college. I've worked in the automotive finance industry since 1986. I'm pretty much a phanatic when it comes to working out. I use our gym at work twice a day. I'm a snacker so gotta workout to compensate ya know.
I like to keep things simple and don't necessarily have to be doing something exciting to be entertained. Looking for someone who has similar interests in both work and life and someone who likes to laugh, stay in or eat out and get away occasionally.
I travel for work so have been able to see the country and experience new cstates and cities. So far NYC is a favorite.
My love for sports has me coaching basketball in the So Bay. Love to see kids grow up and knowing you had an impact on their life is an awesome feeling.

In terms of my physical appearance, a lot of people say I look like a mixture of Donny Osmond, Pete Sampras and George Clooney (unlike those three, I can't sing, can't swing a tennis racket to save my life, and I haven't dated many supermodels). I try to keep in shape by going to the gym three times a week, and I usually do some cardio almost every day. My favourite magazine is Smithsonian (it’s great to roll up and swat flies with!) as it covers a wide range of issues (history, art, science, etc… it’s eclectic) so I really like it. If you are a Smithsonian reader, that is a plus!
My ideal mate would bring me strong coffee and breakfast in bed, and give killer back rubs and foot massages! (I did say "ideal")
In reality, I would like to meet someone who has good values, is affectionate, kind hearted, open to adventure and likes many of the activities I mentioned above.
