With that same mindset, I left South Florida in 1993 to see the world. I have visited 20 countries, 8 more than 5 times and have lived and worked in 3. It has been an intensely rewarding spiritual journey and has given me a very philosophical outlook on life. To quote St. Thomas Aquinas, "To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible."
I have also lived and worked in a number of major cities in the U.S., including New York, L.A., D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Scottsdale, and spent extensive time working in San Francisco.
I have recently returned to the US after completing my European job assignment.
I do enjoy meeting new people. I have always said that I learn something new from every person I ever meet, no matter where they are from or what their socioeconomic status may be. I am fluent in Spanish and French, and can get by in Italian and Portuguese. I read a lot and am pretty up to date on most topics.
My personality can best be described as an easygoing educational and professional overeachiever who seeks a balance in life and the right person to partner with and create a spectacular relationship. My theory is that if you are going to do something, you might as well do it just right.
I believe in working hard and playing hard. As the line from a James Bond movie goes, "What's the point of living if you can't feel alive." I am somewhat competitive, along the lines of "if you are not the lead dog, the view never changes." Errol Flynn's autobiography is one of the most interesting books I have read.
My perfect match is someone who shares my desire for spontaneity and belief that in its own meandering way, life takes you where you are supposed to be. Hopefully they have read and gotten the message of "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. They take a global view of events, and enjoy intellectual conversations. If they are familiar with Turandot's three riddles, hanging out together will be a lot of fun.
I really do enjoy finding that one special thing you can whisper in a woman's ear (not explicit talk) that puts a sparkle in her eye and a smile on her face because she knows I really care.
My own personal theory is that the term "dating" is very 20th Century as applied to adults. I agree with the concept that the first meet should be for coffee or tea (or drinks, depending upon the time of day). It really should be about whether two people click. If I cannot make you laugh and put you at ease enjoying the moment in 30-45 minutes, it's highly unlikely the chemistry will ever be there.
Subsequent meets would involve a wine tasting, taking a cooking class and actually trying to make one of the dishes (I like cooking and entertaining), and going to some jazz club or other live performance (not a stadium-size concert, but a small place where local bands play).
It's all about seeing whether we are good friends. I have always believed that your partner has to be your best friend. If the two people write down the ten best things they like to do and at least 7 of the ten do not match, I am not convinced a relationship would work.

Once upon a time there was a race car driver…..and on his way to a big race far, far from his home in the city, he stopped at a roadside store for something cold to drink. He spotted from the corner of his eye this little red velvet box……and upon closer inspection, noticed a golden skeleton key with a heart shaped handle. And on this red velvet box there were the words inscribed: "Key to my heart". So, he bought that key and just before the start of the race he put it in the pocket of his driving suit for good luck. Well as it turns out, our romantic racer won that day. The fans jumped to their feet as the camera man rushed to victory lane for a post race interview……the trophy girl handed our racer a big bottle of champagne and a huge trophy. The crowd cheered and called out "Shake it up-SHAKE IT UP!" as is customary in such events. Our romantic racer looked square into the camera and said "This is one of the happiest days of my life….but it is not the happiest" as he pulled the key from his pocket….."One day I will meet the love of my life…..and I will give her this key….and we will drink this champagne….and THAT will be the happiest day of my life". I can travel or be home and be happy, stable (emotionally and financially), caring, giving, not clingy-but always close, hardworking (which buys me freedom), clean, spontaneous and faithful. Here’s a quick snapshot of my life in 2 paragraphs…..I am the youngest of 12 (same Mom and Dad), grew up in South Chicago, poor family, parents divorced when I was 5, raised by my Mom, older brothers and sisters, at 13 my Dad fought for custody of me and won. He then sent me to an orphanage (for my own good -he stated...and as it turned out he was right, God Bless him for making the tough decision) where I lived until I graduated at 17. I then left and moved by myself to California where I started my life. Fast forward -I married, had 2 sons, my Xwife moves to North Carolina which left me with the responsibility of raising them....Fast Forward again….they're now 23 and 24, (living on their own) received their Business Degrees and played baseball for a private Christian University in San Diego.
Raising well behaved, healthy, fun loving sons and having quality relationships with them are my two greatest achievements. But what a lesson, If I taught a class in parenting it would include all aspects of 7 topics that have deep meaning and consequence……....Love, Communications, Discipline, Hard-work, Direction, Faith and No Excuses.
In closing, since my divorce in 1992 I've had 1 serious relationship that was off and on, we eventually left as friends. The reason that relationship failed was my inability to give her the love and attention she deserved. Please know, I wasn't a womanizer, or partier, it was simply this; I put all my focus on my sons and business after my divorce. Now that my sons are grown, my businesses are stable and I have matured and learned balance I can now see what mistakes I've made and I know I won't repeat them again. I am now ready to start the next chapter in my life by finding the woman that is deserving of my gift, as I would be of hers.
For me, the Keys to a lifelong love affair are;.....Stay in touch with your lovers thoughts, desires, and why they love you....-and never stop. I beleive if I practice this simple approach you will most likely be the last person I ever see before my time is over.

I'm new to the San Diego area, having recently moved from Lawrence, KS. Lawrence was recently rated one of the top 10 live music cities in the US, despite the fact it's a pretty small town. I miss all the choices I had there, and I'd like to find someone to explore the music here with. I don't just stand there and listen, either, I like to dance, and sometimes I even look like I know what I'm doing.
I love to entertain, hosting cookouts, meals, game nights, or whatever. I'm a fairly decent cook - when I travel I like to bring home recipes or at least ingredient lists, and try to recreate the flavors for my friends. Family and friends are important to me - which has been the hardest part of moving out here. I have a 19 year old daughter, who's living on her own back in KS, and I miss having the close contact with her that I've had.
I am enthusiastic about the things I enjoy, and invite others along - my core group of friends back home tell me they're falling apart because I'm not there to goad them into adventures, and because I've been the glue that holds a very diverse group together. I'm more of an instigator than an organizer though - organizing is what I do at work. When I'm off I like heading out with a general goal in mind and seeing how things turn out.
I have a professional side as well. I travel worldwide providing automation systems for shipping ports. Lately, I've spent a fair amount of time in Brazil, Colombia, and southern Mexico. I'm an engineer, though anything but a typical one. I've had a very diverse career, including a fair amount of work with artists and designers.
The woman I'm looking for is active and smart, has a wicked sense of humor, and is social without being a socialite. I've lived the last 18 years in what is primarily a college town, and I look and live a lot younger than I am, so my pictures tend to show me with younger people, but age is not a primary factor with me, although a young attitude is.
