Date men and women from Santa Cruz, United States. Who am I? Seriously, I'm supposed to spill all the beans just like that? Ok, I'm a tiny speck in a vast universe trying to nurture the greatest expression of love I can. Besides for that, I am a widowed father of two boys, one of whom still lives at home and is finishing up high school. I mention this mainly because my kids are very important to me, and in that regard, I have been spending a lot of time with my younger son in Southern California of late to help him pursue his dreams.
Besides looking for the ever elusive 'chemistry', I am looking for someone who tries to engage their world as it presents itself and is interested in examining this wonder we call life on earth. In other words, I am looking for someone with an eye for the drama that life naturally creates, not in the sense of creating unnecessary complications but rather in observing the grandeur that unfolds continuously. People and circumstances can change so quickly that I am not looking for someone who shares all of my hobbies, but a love of nature is pretty basic.
I have to admit to being skeptical about on line dating, so imagine my suirprise and wonder when within the first week of signing up I had found not one but three soul mates! Never mind the fact that we had never met, things just move fast on the internet these days i guess! i also found it stange that all of my 'soulmates' claimed to live in africa and needed my immediate financial assistance to get out!
However, now that I have been on this site for awhile, I realize that the skepticism was well placed. It's difficult, though very rewarding, to make good connections with people met on-line. Maybe because it's so easy to walk away when things get confusing or maybe because it promotes 'window shopping'? Then there are always the issues of rediscovering oneself after years in a relationship.
As for details on me, I am looking forward to increasing amounts of travel as my childrens' independence continues to grow. Ultimately, I'd like to see the entire world, but we'll see how far I get. One thing I have found, joy comes from being in the present, and not from external events. That being the case, there are loads of exciting places and events in the world. One of my favorite events happens anew on each breath!

I am a happy person. I especially like making those around me happy. When my daughter giggles at something silly I've said or done it makes my day. Sometimes we laugh so hard we can't speak. That's the best.
My life code includes doing at least one good deed a day. I try to do this as early as possible in the day because I've found it difficult to find that proverbial little old lady to help across the street at 10 at night.
I love animals. I carry dog treats in my pocket. Sometimes they go through the washer. And the dryer. The dogs don't know this.
I find the world exhilarating, especially nature. Often I walk to the beach at lunch and I am always amazed at all that water. Any issues I thought I had pale in comparison. I like to watch the surfers. I think of them as wave ninjas as they slice through the water.
I try to live a balanced life. But I tend to be consistently inconsistent. I live by principles. I don't like it when I have to do something I don't want to do. But I do it anyway. And I smile.
I can cook. I make a killer chicken nugget parmesan. Just ask my daughter. Dishes, I'm not so good at. But I do them. And I smile.
I love sunsets. They are the crack between the worlds. I dream of riding in a plane at just the right speed to be in a sunset forever....or until the plane runs out of fuel. Whichever comes first. I know that mileage may vary.
I would like to meet someone and share our wonderful lives. To see what blends. What stays distinct. Like salt and pepper. We both add to the mix but remain ourselves.

Most people would describe me as quiet and easy-going, but funny and active. I believe in leaving the world a better place than I found it, although I don't usually go "above and beyond" to do so. I like to share the beauty I see around me with others, which is largely what drives my photography.
What I'm struggling with in this on-line dating thing is that what really attracts me to a woman just can't be contained in a profile, no matter how much info and pictures is provided. I look around at the people I'm close to, or attracted to in my real world, and realize that if I condensed what I know of them and a few pictures into a profile like this, I probably wouldn't click "interested". That bothers me, and makes me wonder what I might be missing out on. I know I can't click on everyone, and being able to narrow down the choices by certain criteria is very useful, but...

"About Me" (this is arduous)
I start out pretty quiet. I tend to take a few minutes to get my bearings, and figure stuff out. I don't let just anyone in my corner...you gotta be one of the good guys. I play around with photography. Yosemite is my heartplace. I advocate against Human Trafficking. I root for the Giants and the Niners. I'm thinking the Warrior farm team moving to Santa Cruz could be a pretty fun deal. I'm a bit of a geek, frequently an early adopter. I like to know before the hype. I appreciate social media, even if I am very wary about privacy issues.
My friends will tell you that I am loyal, perceptive, headstrong, faithful, a decent cook, fun and funny to be around.
My family will tell you that I am devoted, intuitive, stubborn, religious, not as good of a cook as my Mom, and not as funny as I think I am.
My favorite and most important gig is being Mommy. I have three kids, one by birth and two who are gifts. A son who is 21, and daughters who are 24 and 30. They are successfully launched, educated, employed, and nearby (for now.) I have an interestingly complicated, multi-generational, combination of stepfamilies, whom I hold dear.

Someone who is done playing around....and looking to play for keeps. A man who has a mature relationship with the Lord, and participates at his church. I have to update this as what I said above has even become more important in my life. I lost my 24 year old daughter in a head on collision this last year and yes my life changed. When I wrote above that life was short I truly didn't realize just how short.
