I moved to Santa Barbara in February 2012, from San Antonio. Most of my photos are "adventure travel" because that's what I've been doing lately. But I also enjoy trips appreciating art, architecture, history, archaeology and urban life around the world. I enjoy hiking, trekking, birding, walking all day in interesting cities world-wide, theater, NPR, offbeat/ foreign movies, lectures, author readings, music-- classical, jazz, Americana, blues --and the visual arts. Also like to read -- The New Yorker, New York Times, New Republic, literary fiction, science, history, cereal boxes. Retired from corporate development (mergers and acquisitions) in energy industry. Serious about fitness -- ellipticals , swimming, weight machines. Like to dance. Although I have no children, I have a life-long commitment to my "godson" (He's the son of a long ago girlfriend, I've known him since age 1-1/2). He's 28, a person with special needs, and lives in his own (supervised-living) apartment in Santa Barbara. Before moving to Santa Barbara, I spent about 15 days a year with him, always including the week before Easter hiking in the mountains somewhere on the West Coast (or more recently Big Bend, see pictures from Apr 2008, and with me by tree Apr 2010). Now that I live in Santa Barbara, l spend more time with him, on shorter, more informal basis. Also pictures from my recent treks in Patagonia and Peru, and birding in Tanzania, Borneo, Venezuela, and Australia plus a trip to Sweden/Norway. I would like to meet a woman who is interested in the arts, literature, travel, history, science, culture, current events and good conversation. Center or left-of-center politically would be a better match. (In my short time in Santa Barbara I've canvassed several times for Hannah Beth and Lois.) I enjoy giving to worthy causes, have been active on non-profit agency boards in the past, and I have joined one here in Santa Barbara.

Not always on the go, in fact, slowing down a bit. A fun day: enjoy cooking together after shopping at Farmers Market, nearby (authentic!) fish market and wineries. After dinner, relaxing in the pool and spa,maybe my special fireplace, especially if the sparks are flying and we need to work up an appetite for desert. I love the ocean front time share near Napili on Maui, also bought one week for each of my kids as wedding present. 2nd stop after plane lands is beach shack in Lahaina ordering cheeseburger in paradise. I sometimes host the Sierra Club friday night after hike potluck dinners and slide show. Am famous for my tri tip bbqs. I thoroughly enjoy coordinating SB Elks Student of the Month program and look forward to being statewide judge in their national scholarship program. Do you give back to this wonderful community, or at least don't mind that I do.
A 2nd home somewhere up in the mountains, closer to my 3 kids and 5 gk's all in No CA, is next goal. Love the water, rivers, lakes, but couldn't leave the ocean or beaches of SB permantently.
