Date men from United States / California / Santa Barbara, 42 year old

Date someone special from California, United States. OK, just just browsing my supposed "matches"... and something struck me. Is long hair on a guy just the worst thing ever? Is that really the biggest turn off there is? Not poverty, lying, being obnoxious, or smelling bad?
I swear in 99.9% of the profiles on here, if ANYTHING is listed under turn-offs at all, it's long hair... nothing else.
I have noticed that hippie bashing is tre-cool these days (I blame punk rock and Eric Cartman), but I am not a "hippie", (actually, I don't think any REAL ones exist under the age of 50-something anyway), the hair is more of a metal/Conan the Barbarian thing for me (hmmm, I may be answering my own question here).
So even if I turned out to be one of the funniest, most unique, interesting, talented, nice smelling, and just all around coolest guys ever ('cuz, actually, I am, especially the smell thing) , none of that would matter because my hair is past my shoulders huh? I'm ranting aren't I?
Alright, now that Ive completely alienated the vast majority of you, ON WITH THE BS... uhhh, I mean PROFILE!
I suppose my better qualities are my sense of humor, an insatiable intellectual curiosity (I get interested in just about everything at one time or another... except talentless "celebrities"), and the fact that I can lift very heavy objects when properly motivated. I am gainfully employed as a web developer, have my own car, a decent apartment (s'roomy anyway), and a 14 (...geez, is that right? NOPE, she's 17 now) year old daughter who reminds me that humanity is far from a lost cause. I have a weakness for women who think they're smarter than everyone in the room, but have no desire to prove it to anyone in particular. I'm a sucker for nice hair (but have no length or color preference ;-P) and expressive eyes (you know, the whole smoky, smoldering thing), but beauty is so subjective it's hard to describe "my perfect match". Besides, have you ever noticed how the way people look tends to change as you get to know them? Not being very into superficial relationships (I suppose I could learn though) or one-nighters (again, everything is negotiable...heh), I'm looking for someone to inspire me, to have far ranging and somewhat self righteous conversations with, and well, I'm just looking to make a real connection with an interesting woman.
Seems this is a tall order, or is that just cause I don't have a picture posted? ...hello? (Yeah, the pic thing is a big one aint it)
Wrote this a couple years ago now, and I'd have to say the answer is... YES, it IS the worst thing ever apparently...
