I’m one of those people that animals and children seem to like, which works well because I also enjoy them. I’m often found hanging out with the kids at a party. I like their freshness and sense of fun which helps me stay young at heart. My 13 year old son keeps me in touch with the younger generation, and he enjoys my tales of yesteryear. Honesty, trust and honor are important to me. Friends rely on me when they need a shoulder to lean on because they know I’m trustworthy, discreet, and I’ll provide frank and honest feedback.
I’m quick with a laugh, especially with dry or witty humor. I generally have a laid-back approach to life. I value a brain over a body, but being a man I’m certainly also visually oriented. I want to enjoy wonderful talks on a wide range of topics while I adore my partner’s beautiful face, and gaze deeply into her eyes. And don’t get me started about kissing! Which leads me to my relationship status. Yes, I’m separated and working towards the big D. Meet single man from Santa Barbara, United States. Well, I did actually consider going to Paris to meet a date.
She wrote to me and seemed like the ideal gal. Attractive and reasonably in shape, not too many muscles (I am not a 5 day a week workout guy) close to my age. Liked the same things I did; sailing and water sports, hiking the deserts and canyons ( more like day hiking/car camping...I like my showers), and long drives to nowhere .
Than she mentioned escargot. Escargot Escargot Escargot. That's all she started writing about. Turns out she was an Escargot cook and won the French equivalent of Iron Chef or something like that. She went to Escargot parties, wrote Escargot recipes . You get the idea. The thought of eating dish after dish of cooked land snails, usually served as an appetizer in France ( I went to Wikipedia for that) didn't really ring my bell. And (although I do tend to eat healthy, love salads and the such) I like my barbecued burgers once in awhile. Minus the Brie.
So I bailed on her. Besides the commute would have killed me.
So I am now looking to meet someone closer to home. Preferably Santa Barbara to Ventura, but I do make trips to the Los Angeles area as part of my work so that's OK too. Someone passionate and playful, yet stable and real. Someone who is OK with me being a bluejeans guy, at my best in casual settings.... but I WILL dress up when I meet your mom. Promise I will. I am a mix of liberal and conservative norms, an all American guy with progressive values...and occasionally an odd spin on life. What kind of woman are you? If I were talking to a girlfriend describing Russell:
"First word that jumps into my head when I think of Russell is "adventurous". He is a man who is curious about the world and has put himself out there to experience it. "Generous" is definitely the next word that describes him. He doesn't talk about it much, but I know he gives a lot of his time and energy to wonderful charities. Anyone can give money or cut a check to a charity, but to give so much of your actual time is very special. I would say that Russell is shy, he holds who he really is back until he feels comfortable with a person. The Russell I first met is not the Russell I know now. I guess the best way to word it is that he is very reserve at first, but once you get to know him a little bit (and he gets to know you) he is super fun to be around and he makes me laugh with his witty and worldly humor. The last word I can think of to describe him is "amazing". How many people can build their own airplane that is just about as fast as a jet and then fly it across country a few times! Russell is in every way a renaissance gentleman. Educated, dedicated and devoted to an ethical life. He is intelligent, stable and generous with a level of dependability rarely seen in this era. He is interested in everything, accomplished in most, truly a man of the World but refreshing devoted to the person standing next to him.
He shy at first, talks outward about people, places and things but hesitant with inward personal expression. Be patient, open him one layer at a time, you will be glad you did.

I was totally flattered when Russell asked if I would write a few words describing what I would tell someone about him. He has traveled the world, has had adventures in exotic places I will only dream of going, and yet he asked me – a simple girl with Midwest roots to describe him. And that is so the Russell I know.
You see, Russell is warm and genuine and seeks people with whom he can have a deeper connection. I think he has lived in the lime light, has had what power and money can buy but counts that which it can’t as having greater value. He is generous with his money and time, serving on non-profit boards and volunteering elsewhere but he views this as a responsibility for what he has been given and won’t admit character credit for his willingness to lend a hand where and when he can.
Russell is a compassionate listener. Unlike many men I have met in my lifetime, his ego is in check and he is more about what he has to offer rather than what he wants to have offered to him. If I had to think of one thing that could perhaps be perceived as a criticism it would be that he has a humble spirit, but that makes him all the more attractive to me. This attractive, sensitive, sincere, gentleman is the real deal in a world that is spinning out of control with fast paced feedback and instant gratification.
