My day job is a very rewarding position with a company I have been at for 25 years, I also moonlight as a sound engineer at a couple of clubs and occasionally for different bands at other locations.
When I am not doing sound work, I often participate in motorsports, especially car Rallies of all kinds, which gets me out to different places up and down the west coast. I also really like going for road trips to parks and other places of interest.
In addition to all of that I am something of a rock hound, I enjoy collecting and cutting and polishing different rocks for use in jewelry.
My athletic interests are mainly in cycling and skiing, both of which I think I should do more of.

I am a working scientist, amature musician, and general sports enthusiast (though I am not real big on professional sports). I love the outdoors, especially the mountains and the beaches (or almost anywhere with sun), and that is probably why I went into the earth sciences. I love board sports (surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding) and hope someday to manage to pull off surfing and snowboarding in the same day. Water is important to me, and I am blessed to be living in a place where I can get both beach and mountains within a 3 hour drive of each other.
Along with my passion for the outdoors and being active comes a special affinity for music. I am really drawn to alternative music (I thrive on a hard cunchy guitar sound) but appreciate anything with a melody that touches my inner being and makes me feel good. I play guitar and bass and am willing to try anything musically at least once. I have recently started a small music project which to date has resulted in a few home recordings with some posted on line. But I am working to expand to live music in the near future....
I feel fortunate to have the college education and career that I have. I have managed to teach at some of the best universities in the country, been able to travel the world, and I know that currently I am adding value as well as to the planets scientifc knowledge. Some days I can't wait to get to work to learn something new...
And then there is food. I am a really good cook (even my kids say so) and enjoy making tasty,savory meals. I also really like having friends over for dinner, hosting BBQ's (I have a great back yard on a creek for this), and/or trying out new local resteraunts (the bay area is great for this, isn't it?).
So with all of that, I do not need anyone, but am wanting to share my life with someone who also likes the outdoors, has a love for music, likes to go out and have fun, and is spontaeous. Meet a woman from United States. My business card used to say Teacher-World Traveler…it always got great reactions! But these days, I seem to be searching more for roots and local connections than exotic adventures.
I consider myself a "teacher in recovery", and I've enjoyed a number of interesting jobs focusing on travel, education, and language. For the past five years, I have found my "niche" working with international visitors touring the US on professional training programs. Fulfills my love "learning on the job", puts me in contact with fascinating people, but the "feast or famine" pace can be a challenge, especially in this era of budget cuts! Although I love not having to conform to a routine 40-hr week, it's time to create a more "local" career so that I can enjoy regular activities here in the wondrous Bay Area, and nurture a long-term relationship...thus, my renewed focus on reaching out to meet someone equally special and, hopefully, as passionately international, curious, and interested in engaging actively in the world around us.
I lived/worked in Europe and have traveled widely in the past, but I feel pretty settled in Berkeley after 20 yrs (!)
