I’ve been single for about eight years if you count separation (I certainly count it). I must say I’ve enjoyed my singleness. Two of my three kids live in Nevada City. One of them has two delightful little boys, who I hang out with on a regular basis. My kids like being with me and I like spending time with them.
I’ve also enjoyed some of the freedoms that come with being single. I’ve traveled with very loose itineraries to some very cool places on five continents. I keep a schedule that changes depending on how I feel. Being somewhat retired, I have control over my time. I love being outdoors and I hike often. Life is very good. Still, I recognize that being in a relationship that is right for me (and her) and sharing experiences would be the best.
What is a relationship that is right? I understand there are ups and downs, give and take. You can’t be married for thirty years as I was and not know that. Here are some of the qualities that I hope I have to some degree and that I hope my partner would have: youthfulness, fun and somewhat spontaneous, an overriding sense of humor (including not taking oneself too seriously), a little irreverence, a commitment to stay in shape, being laid back, acceptance (open mind?), flexibility (welcoming change), a sense of curiosity, authenticity, honesty (and trustworthiness), gentleness, and a diversity of interests. And…being a romantic.
I don't dance much but I'm open to learning. The same goes for cooking. I don't watch much TV (some sports and movies). I hope to travel more often. Right now, I'm spending time getting back in shape after an injury.
