Date a soulmate from La Jolla, United States. Having grown up in the suburbs of NYC and then lived in Manhattan during my medical training, you could say that I have elements of a New Yorker (the good ones?) along with the influences of the SoCal lifestyle after 25 years in San Diego. If you believe there are things to be learned from a person's upbringing, then know that I am the oldest of five brothers educated at a Catholic grammar school, and remain on good terms with my family.
Regarding family, kids are not an issue, as I have been in years long relationships where children have been a positive factor. Also, I'm a one woman man, and seeking a life partner; marriage is fine - would depend more on what the woman desires.
If there is something to which I might make a new time commitment, it would be to teach a course at the college level. The areas that most interest me are history and philosophy, both as something to teach and for the topics themselves. People tell me that I know a lot of stuff in a lot of different areas, and to consider sharing it. So I am.
A site like this is great for avoiding the obvious things that would make another person unlikely to be a good match. Beyond that, I find that a face to face is necessary to really get a feel for someone. Maybe even more than one, as nervousness or other factors can prevent getting to see a good sense of humor or other traits, good and bad. So if you're still reading this and interested, let's have a casual and hopefully fun meet and greet. And if not, best of luck.
PLEASE! Based, unfortunately, on previous experience, I am compelled to say this: please, if your age is not accurate or your photos not reasonably current, let's not lose any valuable time. All of the information on my profile is accurate and current, and the photos are now between 1 and 2 years old, though the two formal photos were taken in August 2010. Thanks.
Meet a man from La Jolla, United States. One of the qualities my friends would describe is that I am very focused when listening to them, can be serious when needed and really playful and funny when needed--I have no problem laughing at myself and life. I spend as much time as I can outdoors at the beach or in the mountains, have a profession I love (yet need to get away and renew reqularly) and I also love my life even with life's ups and downs. I am loyal, honest and a friend that can be counted on so I have been told.
I am looking for someone who is happy on their own, has some innocence in their hearts, can laugh at themselves and banter with a mate/friend in a playful way. Being fit and loving nature is a real plus and just wanting to experience life, movies, hikes and share is an important quality I am looking for. Being simple, straight and honest really helps too! Having that as a foundation, travel would just be icing on the cake but not necessary for a warm and connected relationship. Warmth, tenderness, intensity and passion. Interested?

Words are easy and I don't expect you to believe what I tell you about myself. Actions are hard but I'm not afraid to let mine speak for me.
My best friend tells me that I''ve never learned to put myself first. He considers it a criticism. I consider it the best epitaph I could have.
Any day I wake up is a good day. Everything after that is gravy!
I still think I'm 28 and for the life of me I can't figure out who that white-haired guy in the mirror is or how he keeps getting into my apartment.
