Date single man from California, United States. A typical day starts with coffee and newspapers. Then I often take off walking/running my dog, Thor, a wolf/husky mix and a rescue dog. We go 2-5 miles. I work hard to stay in shape.
I am a retired mental health nurse so the rest of my day is my own. I stay very busy and have a diverse set of interests. Predominant in this list is wine. I belong to 4 wine groups. The most fun of these meets every Tuesday at 3pm. There are 6 people in this group. We rotate houses. The host provides the wine and some food. We always brown bag the wine and try to guess what we are drinking with the only clues being whether each wine is foreign or domestic, a blend or single varietal. We are all getting better at this.
Another outlet for this passion is my basement that is almost done being converted into a wine cellar. I have almost 1100 bottles down there. The vast majority are produced in Paso Robles, an area I know well having visited the over 170 of the roughly 250 wineries there. The past 3 Novembers I have taken bus loads of people on a day trip to Paso wineries under the auspices of the Osher Institute of Lifelong Learning. 11/4, the date of the last trip we visited 4 wineries, all off the beaten track, all small family owned businesses involved in sustainable growing practices. These trips have been so successful that I am planning on turning trips like this into a business. I hope to get this off the ground in 2012.
I have other interests I feel passionate about. One of these is music. I listen to music every day and appreciate all kinds including classical, jazz, folk, classic country, Americana, blues, R&B, and world music. I enjoy concerts and have attended 3 very good concerts in the past month. The artists were Dave Alvin, Tom Russell, and Lyle Lovett.
Another passion are my adult children. My son, Quinn, is 26 and a racehorse trainer. He has done this for 5 years and is getting increasingly successful. His last winner was a horse named 'Surfer Dave', a horse he also owns.
My daughter, Tess, is 23 and working as a cocktail waitress. She also has a horse involvement competing in 3 day events on her horse, 'Pretty Boy Floyd', a beautiful thoroughbred of 17 hands.
Other interest/passions I have is movies. I used to do a movie blog with a friend. I hope to get back to that eventually. I enjoy divergent films including foreign, Indy, documentaries, classics, and even silent films. My tastes are very eclectic. Among my favorite films are 'Tokyo Story, 'Godfather 2', 'Seven Samurai', Bringing Up Baby', 'No Country for Old Men', 'Mouchette', and 'Umberto D'.
Other interests include sports, hiking, reading, food, and travel.
