As the the GOP/Tea party sucks the life out of political debate, I submit a short version of my own future obit, enough to give you a feel, but not enough that I'll worry about being blackmailed. Reared in NYC and vestiges of it remain (sharp, quick, suffer fools badly, know real bagels don't come in flavors) despite my having lived in CA since '67~Oxy Stanford Law then in SoCal,Minus 3 years in DC in the 90s~was almost LALA-ified (though I never wrote a screenplay) before retiring and moving to SRQ in 2009 to help my Dad after his stroke (he's now gone-and I will return to SoCal in early May). I was lucky to have been able to represent poor criminal clients and do volunteer work while also doing what I wanted for fun. I'm pro choice; anti-capital punishment; like trees but rarely feel the need to hug them;think political correctness inhibits full discussion; crave spicy food; will not call DC's airport"Reagan National"; knew Bush43 would never get it right and Cheney is 4th axis of evil.Much of who I am is contradictory, straddling the line between traditionalist and iconoclast, cynic and romantic, visionary and pragmatist. My friends tell me that I am off-beat and witty; I think I just live in a world with an easy crowd. Diversions are better when shared; mine include: Travel, both exotic (African safari, Egypt, Cambodia, Pushkar Camel Fair, Da Nang, Brobdingnag, polarbear migration) and civilized (Paris, Florence, Tulsa, Rome). I love feeling sunshine driving with the top down. I play tennis at 4.0-4.5 and carry a 4 h'cap. I have good seats for the Clippers enjoy theater, movies(lean to foreign or indy-last "Sarah's Key" and "Chasing Madoff"), ballet or modern dance, reading (non-fiction since Vonnegut died);music at the Hollywood Bowl (classical or jazz), museums (from cave paintings through LACMA, the Getty, Norton Simon, & Storm King (NY)- love Rodin & Giacometti); I try to limit TV to House,Burn Notice and insomniac fare (though I do miss Steve Irwin's understated dignity); but you'd have to use chloroform to get me to the opera. I know which fork to use and my way around the kitchen, but could use a culinary muse. Yes, I like walks on the beach, but I'll skip Pina Coladas for single malt, or red Bordeaux.I tend to keep friends close to forever. I'm insatiably intellectually curious so we can discuss any idea, but I can't dance my way out of a paper bag(honestly, aren't all the great male dancers working on cruise ships?)
YOU:I've seen the polar bears migrate,18,307 camels awaken at Indian dawn and the aurora borealis, but never you... my loss [Sorry, my pen was temporarily possessed by Barry Manilow & an editor at Hallmark]. I relate best to women who are smart,independent, and patient. Your being a good athlete is a turn on, but so too is your being an articulate writer or speaker, as I appreciate both a well turned ankle and a well turned phrase. And, please give me someone with an edge over a Saccharin type any day. History says I do well with people up on the world, averse to schadenfreude, possessed of a clever sense of humor, appreciative of my quirky and occasionally macabre view of life, and people with an artistic eye. Independence is great, but sharing some interests helps: I'm always looking for good mixed doubles, a seatmate for a Buc game, and a partner for Paris, Machu Picchu or the Galapagos. Sorry, I'm shallow enough to believe that looks are important but a smile that lights up the darkest corners of the room goes a long way. Please pass if you put on makeup with a trowel, have deep and vivid memories of being probed by alien visitors, like to listen to twangy country music 24/7, want to bomb Planned Parenthood to protect innocent lives, think the Three Stooges are witty and droll, want to interact with your I-Phone all day, believe in pet reincarnation or are on a first name basis with a body piercer or the editor at Fox News. The goal is for something longterm. Back to LA May 5
