Date a soulmate from California, United States. Long story short, I'm a Minnesota Norwegian country boy who somehow ended up living almost all of his adult life in large cities. I recently escaped from the last one, Los Angeles, to Eureka, CA. (And, yes, I'm determined that L.A. will be the last large city I'll live in.) I've only been here about nine months, but do have a job (somewhat to my surprise).
These days, I'm enjoying live music, especially in small, casual venues. I like to dance. My taste in both music and dance is eclectic. I like to eat at good restaurants - when my sons were up visiting recently, I told them I would have to start dating if only to have someone to eat out with.
I have no hard profile of what I'm looking for. Like most people, I've had in my life some preferences in body type, personality, etc for partners, but I find my preferences are becoming less definite or exclusive as I age. I'm a firm believer in "it ain't what you got, it's how you carry it" - and the attractiveness of a face is mostly about how one inhabits it.
Or I could say, on a more practical level, as a friend of mine did, when asked what kind of women he liked, "At my age, I like the ones that like me." I believe that, when two people meet, there is an intuitive recognition of like or dislike (or disinterest) - not always immediately, but usually fairly soon. If there's no antipathy, there might be a spark, or a glow, or lightning. Any of the last three would be fine with me - or just someone to dine and dance with would be fine too.

I’ve decided to edit mine and provide the kind of information I think women in our generation find important. All of what I wrote last year is true but here is more.
What I am not:
Tall, dark, handsome, rich, a couch potato, tv sports addict, or conservative. I’m not a guy you would approach to find out if I’m available. I don’t care for motor sports or hunting to kill. If someone like that is who you are seeking, no need to read on.
What I am:
Short, stocky (but more fit than most men my age), average looking, and stable. At present I have a beard, but I’m not married to it. I’m honest and sometimes blunt. I’m shy and would never try to pick a woman up anywhere. I’m 63, retired, healthy, interested and interesting, a good communicator, a nature lover, and I have a wide range of interests with room for more. I am free to travel whenever I want to and be gone for as long as I want. I like where I live, but would re-locate under the right circumstances. I’m not opposed to distant relationships as I can visit or be visited often. I would limit it to northern California and Southern Oregon though. I love coffee, wine with a nice dinner, art, jazz, blues, soft rock, some country, and classical. I am a liberal environmentalist. I am a gentleman with some old school manners (I’ll open doors unless my other wishes to open her own). I don’t smoke and have no interest in someone who does or is “trying to quit”. My only addictions are to coffee, chocolate ( I love a mocha), and being outside when the weather permits. On dreary days, I’m happy to sit in front of the fire and read or watch a good movie. I’m handy. I do almost all of my own home repairs, improvements, landscaping, house cleaning, and cooking (not a great cook though). I love all animals and am currently managed by a beagle. Growing up in western Pennsylvania, all I ever wanted to be was a cowboy. That didn’t work out .
Who I’m looking for:
Someone who is free, stable, spontaneous, fit (able and motivated to keep up with me or even pass me), can laugh at herself, and finds what I have written above appealing. It would also seem I am about to be a Gran-Pa. Something I will not shirk from. I have most of the gran-pa stuff already. Funky clothes. Use not really a cane, more of a homemade staff kinda thing. No Corvette for this guy. Not that I can’t afford one. But I can also, afford not, having one. Yep, I do light duty science fiction. And know the difference, between, Spock, and R2D2.What am I looking for? Hummm You should have an inner glow. You must be at home, in the theater, or floating down the river, past the nudie beach. And something else, I bought a cheap art set, have the one only, cheap book on the subject, and want to explore my artistic abilities. More than happy to have you audition for a nude painting, I would love to paint. Intelligence and laughter is a must. You also should be an omnivore. Be able to boil water, order Chinese/Mexican food, and make peanut butter/jelly sandwiches, Oh on camping trips, you will, not be permitted, to cook, or wash dishes. Cooking on an open fire is my job. I can do the walk on the beach thing. Tho, I prefer the fireplace thing.
