Date a soulmate from California, United States. Not sure what I'm looking for, but I think I will know it when I see it. I just ended a relationship with someone I met on-line, and now I'm back... nearly a year later... trying to reconcile the strange feeling I get in my stomach when I am paging through thumb-sized photos and trying to find some kind of two-dimensional chemistry from what I see. Hmmmm. Hard to do... is it a specific height I am looking for? Eye color? Profession? Perhaps shared interests? No... that doesn't necessarily work. My last two long relationships were with people I had little in common with, and the guy who just dumped me after 6 months was someone I once saw as my male counterpart. We had everything in common, including the way we think – the latter being our eventual undoing. Maybe that's it! I should seek out only opposites. Hmmm. But in the long run the mutual-chemistry-but-nothing-else-in-common didn't work either. Chemistry. That's a hard concept to grasp on-line. Everyone looks like a postage stamp. And the profiles... blah, blah, this and that about what you like to do and how old your kids are. Nice to know, but doesn't give me the essence of someone.

As for me, what you see is what you get. Photos are recent, and not the best or the worst photos I've ever taken. Just tried to pick photos that honestly represent what I look like, because I don't want to meet someone in person that has the unmistakable look of disappointment on their face when I walk in the room. Hasn't happened yet, but I live in fear of the moment, so I try to keep my photos current.
My friends say I'm a "catch" and can't figure out why I'm still single after two years. My friends are MY friends, and wonderful to have them, but their perspective is probably distorted. I wouldn't say I'm a "catch" (whatever that means) but I think I'm a generally pleasant, low-maintenance companion.
I'm trying to be realistic here, but I really don't want to get into any more 3 month... 6 month... 8 month relationships anymore. My neighbors are getting confused, and I've started avoiding them. My new goal is just to make it to a one-year anniversary. Not too much to ask, I don't think. Not looking for a husband, or serious commitment, just a relationship that lasts long enough to get my friends off my back for a while.
