In a major unexpected turn of events, I moved from Los Angeles back to Newport Beach (NHHS class of '77!) in mid-June to take care of my 93 year-old mom who has dementia, after having to put my equally addled and elderly dad in a nursing home. As much as family means to me, I never in a million years would have seen this situation coming even 6 months ago when I was planning a move to Austin, TX, but here I am. I learned that sometimes your personal plans need to take a back seat when your loved ones need help. And when that happens, you do what you need to do; but not without praying for strength, patience, grace and a BevMo 5 cent wine sale!
Not seeing how I could move down here and keep my job in West Hollywood, I gave notice and was honored with the offer to work from home, commuting one day a week. So that's what I do. Lucky for me, they weren't ready to let me go just yet. :)
In the meantime, between cooking for Mom/making sure she's ok and remodeling/redecorating my old bedroom to make this chapter bearable (the wallpaper had to go!), I yearn for some adult company (and an excuse to not eat dinner at 4:30pm!), intelligent conversation (repetitive trips down memory lane are great, but...) and a partner in crime. I'd like to rediscover this gorgeous area that I left in '89 to pursue a career in the music industry, and I'd like someone to share the experiences with. Walking over to Castaways Park to watch the 4th of July fireworks from the Dunes would have been so much more enjoyable with some company!
Lifestyle in general is quite different down here for me than it was in the heart of the city, and I want to embrace as much of it as I can. I'm taking tennis lessons, would consider golf (I'm good at pool - same hand/eye coordination, right?) boating, hiking, museums, bike riding (just bought a new 7-speed cruiser!), concerts, high-brow/low-brow restaurants...you know, the usual. Unfortunately, as much as I love a weekend getaway or fabulous vacation, I'm unable to do either at the moment. Thankfully, this area is chock-full of fun things to do.
What am I looking for? A man who is good company; a caring bloke who understands what I'm going through or is willing to be supportive through this chapter. It won't last forever, but this isn't always easy for me and could get more difficult. Despite that, I want to make the best of my own life while I help my folks' sun set. Honesty is imperative and a wicked sense of humor is important - mine can be a little dark lately, but it gets me through this ridiculous stuff that will make a good book or sitcom someday. And I totally dig a man who's a guy's guy and capable of fixing stuff. I'm a DIY'er and don't mind getting dirty or breaking a nail for the sake of a creative project. I admire that quality in my man as well as someone who, in exchange for my joining him at an Action flick, won't mind watching The Bachelor or a RomCom with me occasionally.

I'm going to update this and add that I love kids. I always thought I'd have several, but alas....So, I'm super open to meeting someone who has kids of any age or someone who would be open to adopting someday. I definitely want kids - step or adopted/foster in my future.
