I grew up in Holland and started a career in the merchant navy and sailed on merchant ships for 3 years in order to see and discover the world. When I turned 22 I discovered what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and emigrated to the US to study forestry and later ecology. I have always loved plants and natural vegetation. While I have traveled and lived abroad a great deal in my life (I have lived in 5 countries), I also love being at home with friends, a good book, a great movie, or some classical music or good jazz. Most importantly I love being with female company.
I am a happy person who loves to laugh, go out with friends, or have them over at my house for a glass of wine, beer, or dinner as I like to cook. I do not suffer from depression, and rarely get angry as I find it damaging to both the other person and to myself. I am even tempered and generous and get along with almost every one, but don't take well to mean (with money besides the other kind), opinionated, and selfish people. I enjoy my male friends for their conversation that is usually focused on the world outside oneself, but enjoy my female friends even more for their views that are more often focused on the world within oneself.
I am affectionate, and greatly value the importance of close friendships. Earlier in my life, life was all about the journey of going forward and outward, now it has become a journey of going forward and inward, towards discovery of both oneself and of others.

As you can see from my photos, I may no longer be a poule de printemps but I'm nowhere near my sell-by date. I'm tall, well-educated, well-groomed and I have no insufferable habits that would make you want to just scream. I have a very pleasant and kind disposition but being born and raised in New York, you know there's always going to be an edge. I am never smarmy.
I'm in good shape and physically very active.
I like to talk, even concerning things I don't know anything about. There's a certain talent there, but I've never quite managed to turn that into a huge profit.
I'm still working, happily, for myself as I've always done since my 20s. I just couldn't find a career on the rack as a young man that fit me, so I made up my own. I wear a lot of hats but I have only one head. Some men might fail to mention that but I believe in being very honest.
Although I was raised as a city boy, and will always be comfortable in the metropolis, as I've matured I've taken more to country life. I even have a garden, for gawd's sake. And here I thought that all vegetables grew in shrink wrap and all insects were roaches. I'm stunned with my newly acquired talents.
In terms of “what I'm looking for”, there's no set pattern here but like most of you out there, it would be great to share experiences and travel with someone you're just a little, or a lot, ga-ga over. I like my women strong and my tea weak. If you've taken good care of yourself, or tried to, as I have, we'd probably be a better match.
I'm young at heart, too, so I know what's going on in the world, with tech, etc. and have friends of all ages.

While in college my primary interests included art, design, athletics (competition swimming/water polo) and the environment.
