Date someone special from California, United States. I am a friendly, funny, retired businessman that has lived alone too long. I graduated from the Univ. of Pacific with my degree in Psychology in 1966. After working for a year, Uncle Sam called me to serve as a soldier in Viet Nam, but I enlisted in the Air Force instead. They sent me to Officer Training School in Taxas, and then to Cape Cod for my first station. I was a Weapons Director eventually, having been schooled in Panama City Florida, on three occasions.
I really enjoyed life on the Cape, and have great memories of the quaint villages and terrific surf fishing there. After two years I was sent to Iceland to keep an eye on the Ruskies. What an awesome place. The unspoiled beauty and friendly people, who really liked Americans, created a sense of enchantment in me. The food was terrific as well. My mother was Swedish and the Icelanders are the last of the Vikings. Lots of cream soups and smoked lamb. I even had whale on one occasion. (You'll have to ask)
When I got home, the GM plant was on Layoff, so I packed my '69 Volkwagen Bug, and headed for Snow Country. It was Thanksgiving time in Park City, Utah and they were hiring for the upcoming ski season. I landed a job as the head bar tender at the main lodge, at the Rusty Nail. I lived in the loft of a local eatery called the Crepe and Fondue Haus. Their leftovers were really something.
I returned to the Bay Area, and General Motors was putting the second shift back on, and recalled me from layoff. I worked in the Personnel Department for 11 years, in the Training Department, Labor Relations, and finally as the Employment Supervisor. I learned a lot at GM. They sent me to Michigan, Warren and Detroit, on 6 occasions for special training, and I am most grateful.
You get to know a lot of people in a plant of 7700 employees in 11 years and I still have contact with many. I was on a rather large stage and after some prodding, traded it in for a smaller stage, working for my family's business at the time of my father's retirement. I wore a lot of hats there, most at the same time. GM was a terrific training ground as was the AF, and I retired after 25 years at age 65.
So that brings you up to date, pretty much. I love living in the Bay Area, and am still in the house where I raised my three daughters, but now have 4 guest rooms. I like my place, and have a view of S.F. Bay on one side, and of Mt Diablo out the other. I live close enough to the ocean that I can be there in about 45 minutes if driving the right time of day. Once there at Half Moon Bay, I usually take a walk along the beach, then return to my lunch of Wine, Sourdough French Bread, Cheese, and a Dungeness crab, cooked the day before and chilled. The only thing that is missing is a sweet girl. Is that you?
