My story in a nutshell is that I got caught up in my career, lost sight of what was most important, wound up in an unwanted divorce, and now I'm starting over. However, l like to think that I’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons from my past, which I hope will help me with this new chapter in my life.
My friends would describe ms as a witty, fun, good, loyal guy--assuming I bought them enough drinks! For a Type A personality, I’m pretty laidback and can find or create the humor in any situation--although I'm grasping for it as I write this. I try not to take myself too seriously, although I work in a fairly intense environment. I'm the managing partner of the LA office of a large law firm--which sounds more impressive than it really is. I'm trying to strike that balance in life between work and play. I’ve learned the hard way what’s most important in life, so I will now try to make more time for those who are most important to me and my interests outside of the office. At the end of the day, no matter what material things you have, it’s the simple pleasures that make life worth living. In my case, my greatest gift and pleasure is my 12-year-old son, who is at the center of my world. I have him about one-third of the time.
I have a broad array of interests. I love to surround myself with positive people, who like to have fun. I also have a serious and intellectual side, and like to discuss current events and politics. However, I respect differnent points of view, and I really don't like to argue. I draw my beliefs from a variety of sources such as Buddhism, Paganism, Christianity, Quantum physics, Taoism. I believe the world is a great classroom, wonderful in its diversity and richness. But there is also a deeper reality that is beyond the material world, that underlies and influences our lives, and connects each of us to everyone else.
At present I’m in the process of reinventing myself. By day I'm a software engineer. But by night and for two weeks out of the year I’m a psychologist specializing in consciousness studies. I’m working on a PhD in psychology with plans to teach and do research at a university when I graduate.
But I’m not all mental (nor have I gone “mental”... yet). I keep active, go to a gym regularly (actually not just going there, but exercising too), practice martial arts, and hike in the nearby San Gabriel mountains when I have time. In the past I was a fencer - foil and saber. Some of the other things I like about the world: mountain streams, woodland glades, a view of the ocean, medieval cathedrals and castles, cats, owls, Hollywood Bowl, House of Blues, Magic Castle, Getty Center, NFL football.
I like to travel the world. Some of my favorite places are Paris and the Loire Valley, Rome, Florence, Venice (Italy not CA), Bavaria, London. I’d love to travel to exotic and romantic places with someone special.
