I was for many years a driver of 18-wheelers--both before and after receiving a Ph.D. in religion. That I own my home I owe to my years as a gear-jammer, though I have not turned a wheel in some time. I have lived in different parts of the US, studied overseas more than once, worked on the iron-ore boats on the Great Lakes, taught first-generation college students in Appalachia. I enjoy meeting new people and engaging them in conversation. I am most comfortable in casual environments--jeans and bare feet work well at home. I try to find and bring out the best in others.
