Date a man from California, United States. What’s the best way to let someone know a bit about you by reading a few hundred words? That’s rhetorical. I don’t know, but let’s see if this works. It probably won't convey the depth of my character, what a wonderful person I am, or my sense of humor. :-) I imagine you struggle with the same challenge on your profile.
Things I think help define me:

• I’m an engineering executive and love my career. I have a good work/life balance and am fairly successful by most standards.
• I enjoy music, and joined a band last year playing keyboards and guitar on mostly 80’s songs. It’s a lot of fun, and I’m getting better. I also realize that I may have (want) to give it up one day for The Right Person. That’s okay. Just don’t tell the band now.
• Besides music, cars are a big hobby. It seems I always have a few in various stages of restoration. I find working on them therapeutic and rewarding, except when it’s really frustrating. But then, there is satisfaction from problem solving. I do all the work myself, except upholstery. Some things are better left to professionals. I’m a concours judge, and judge 4 or 5 shows a year.
• I can fix almost anything.
• My parents are European and I like to consider myself a gentleman. If you’re really uncomfortable with a guy that opens doors for you and pulls out your chair… well, it’s just a hard habit for me to break.
• I also consider myself very kind and generous, but that has led to me being taken advantage of. I’ve occasionally crossed the line between generous and sucker.
• I’m a bit of a kid inside. I like sci-fi and Pixar movies. (Don’t worry – I have no Star Wars toys of any kind and don’t play video games.)
• I have a serious side (mainly related to career, investing, and things one should be serious about), and a silly side that comes out after I’m comfortable with you. My sense of humor can be slightly sarcastic at times.
• I’m blessed with great parents and a wonderful brother. We are all very close and talk frequently. My parents still live in the house I grew up in and it’s a wonderful experience to stay in “my” room when I visit. Family is very important.
• I love being romantic and passionate.
• I is articulate and intelligent. What? Oh yea; that sense of humor again.
• I enjoy plays, concerts, and movies. Especially concerts.

• I Don't Sweat The Small Stuff (and it's all smal stuff). (Great book, on Amazon.)
• I enjoy travel. My favorite places to visit are England, Italy, and France. I also like tropical vacations and try to get in some Scuba diving when I go. Maui, Tahiti, Cozumel, and the Caribbean (Grand Cayman) are as spectacular below the water as above it. I have relatives in England and Germany and plan to go back soon.
• I believe the best relationships have a foundation of friendship, trust, and communication. They are mutually supportive, nurturing, caring commitments. I am fiercely loyal, compassionate, and tolerant.
About you:
You are also fiercely loyal, playful, and passionate. You are patient (you must be if you’re still reading). You enjoy your work and like to get better at what you do. You love music and possibly (dare I hope?) even cars. Or at least tolerate them. You are equally comfortable dressing up for a formal event or kicking around in jeans. You had a great upbringing from loving parents. You realize that while eros and passion are great, relationships are sustained on a deeper love and commitment where friendship and communication are critical. You take good care of yourself physically and emotionally. You are not looking for someone to complete you, but someone to complete your life.

I have lived in Alaska the last 19 years but am originally from Holland. I became a citizen in '97 and made the United States my home. What you could expect from me? I can dress up in an adorable little dress with high heels but I can also dress down and do not mind getting my hands dirty. Why am I here? I am sure just like you; I was in what I thought the marriage for life, and it turns out to be not what you'd expected. We are all entitled to a life of happiness, but things don't always turn out the way we hoped and dreamed. I treasure my life experiences and do not dwell on the past. I have a lot of love to give and I hope to share that with a man that appreciates and values me.
