I came to California for a two week holiday in 1980 and never went home - a lot of that time in Santa Barbara.
I can do lots of accents which normally get a laugh - I can spend the whole coffee meet as a Liverpudlian, an Indian, Scotsman, Australian....................the list goes on - good party trick.
I haven't done this for 15 years so you have to bear with me. I have travelled to lots of places, read lots of books and feel I can converse on many topics.
I have read so many profiles where people say they are looking for someone "normal". I think I am pretty normal, I seem to represent in one way or another many of the qualities that people seem to be looking for - honesty, integrity etc. I have a dry sense of humour and I am sure that I can make you laugh which also seems to be a popular requirement.
I exercise pretty regularly either at the gym, or cycling or in the water.
I love to play in the water, I have been sailing since I was 9 and have done a circumnavigation, I scuba dive, am trying to surf, swim, love to hike.
The kind of person I am looking for...... I want someone who has opinions and shares them about a multitude of things. The whole world is going through a seismic shift from the Arab Spring to the financial maelstrom that is engulfing the West. I just returned from London and had a fantastic night debating with a Spaniard, a Frenchman and a couple of other English guys over dinner. So an interest in the world beyond the immediate environs would be another plus.
The whole food thing would be a big plus if you can cook even better, I do have images of creating some amazing meals with someone who loves to cook.
Ultimately we can all write what we want in this column and it won't amount to a hill of beans until we meet and see what happens - either a thunderbolt, a damp squib or something in between.
