Not knowing how to start this essay, I thought I'd quote some lines from a favorite 80's song. It's not always easy but I think it important to get the balance right.
I’m quite responsible and have a respectable career that affords me a home and a stable life. (No, I don’t live in a barn.) The fourth line in the song, for those that know it, sounds harsh which is why I left out a few words. Being a single man, I tend to focus on myself during the routines of the day. A wise man once wrote, “Pets, especially dogs, require you to care for someone other than yourself.” My dogs have certainly been good at getting me to focus outward. It’s in my character to want the best for other people. (This being one reason I became an educator.)
I, however, have been missing a special person in my life that would make me a better me. Now, after years of friends and loved ones moving away, getting divorced, or following different paths, my social circle could use expanding. I spend far too much of my time working and too little being social. I am looking forward to making new friends and getting the balance right.
Let's go out to dinner and see a movie. Let's go to the beach. I'll teach you to surf or we can relax and take a stroll on the beach. Let's go to a concert and rock out. Let’s take a trip, visit a national park, or fly overseas. I have had the privilege to travel throughout Europe and have been as far as Istanbul.
And while making new friends is a priority for me, ultimately I'm looking to fall in love with a beautiful soul and spend the rest of my life with her. Start with a date that could lead to a friendship that could grow into a wonderful relationship!
