I'm unable to tell you the names of many actors and identify the plots of even fewer movies. I prefer to be outside experiencing the world around me and it is paramount that my companion enjoy the outdoors as well.
Only time will tell where this "friendship/relationship" will lead. I have met some very nice gentlemen from this site. I'm not looking for someone exactly like myself in the way of hobbies, activities, career, etc. I enjoy meeting new people who have life experiences and followed paths different than mine. These differences give us something to share, discuss and learn from each other.
I am canceling my subscription to this site in August 2012. I have been asked several times over, "What is it you are looking for?" Most of you have a grocery list in your head that you are able to rattle off. I don't. I enjoy the company of several different types of people with different personalities. I guess I'm "looking" for the one who "clicks" with me. My mantra should be:

Meet people from California, United States. My youngest just graduated high school, now they are both in college.I am very, very close to them, they are my pride and joy, but it's time for Mom to do something for me.
I like to be active, may be 51, but sure don't feel it. I love the outdoors, would rather be outside, even if its just on the patio during a bbq, which are great. I love camping, my two favorites are Yosemite and Pismo. I must admit, I am not a primitive camper, I like a bed, raised off the ground and a bathroom nearby, so National and State Parks usually fit that bill.To be honest, I like to do just about anything, day trips, road trips, sitting by the pool, horseshoes, family and friend bbqs, going out to dinner, making dinner at home with a movie, staying up late laughing and sharing drinks, sleeping in the next morning, or waking up early to go on a bike ride. Love boating and spending time at nearby lakes. If I haven't done it, I will probably try it.
I love to laugh, I enjoy people and try to see the good in everything and everyone, some people call that naive and I have been burned by it MANY times, but it's just me and I haven't changed yet.
Looking for ??? I already have friends, but believe firmly that you have to be friends before anything else. Date someone special from California, United States. Don't tell me "I can't". I have a year at least to earn my B. S. at UCMerced. I may go to Europe for my masters degree. (I don't want to go to UCSD even though Cog Sci is huge there.) Don't tell me I can't. I can. My daughters are independent. I have no grandchildren. I have a 1929 baby grand that I can not keep dragging with me. I will cry but it will go if I get to finish my education abroad. Hopin' a daughter will keep my fat cat. As you can see, I am not looking for a white picket fence type of relationship. I am in a very boring place for the sake of school and need a life! Merced may have a new UC but...there are no mountains. The only trees...were planted. Any substantial amount of water is faar awaay. Can someone hike Tuolumne Meadows with me? Kayak Cherry Lake? (I don't have my own kayak anymore but I'll rent one.) Or search for a secluded Northern Cal beach to explore?
Even coffee and conversation with an intelligent person my age would be a welcome reprieve from rubbing elbows with 20 year old fellow students who study AND party AND make it look easy. It's not easy. I'm crazy enough to study cog sci at 50 but I'm not happy stuck in Merced buried in schoolwork. There are bike trails everywhere. Anyone for a bike ride? I will even share my new found 'muscle reintegration' massage person. (He's reintegrating muscles that didn't know how much they needed reintegrated.) See...I'm going crazy. I am infering that my muscles are sentient.
I took myself to Mariposa a couple of Sundays ago to get-out-a-town. I enjoyed the drive and the museum. I am very familiar with the countryside of San Joaquin, Calaveras and Amador counties and somewhat familiar with surrounding counties. I miss the drives to the mountains up there. I would love to continue west from here with hiking shoes, my camera and a picnic basket. sigh
Not that it is important but I do not own any furniture other than my computer armoir, a twin bed, a file cabinet and a baby grand piano. Oh yes I have a night stand. This is good for a university brat cuz we tend to move often and far. Anyone want to keep a piano for a while? It's a thought.
By the way, cog sci is NOT psychology. Well. Psy is part of it but not the part I'm interested in. Seen too many therapists in my day and I am not going there. Think that's odd to admit? Try leaving home at sixteen, getting married right away. Can't conceive for 5 years (his friends lost the bets.) First son stillborn. Second (all girls after first) dies at age 5. Twins born 1 lb each. See if YOU can manage without a drink, a couch and a divorce. When I say 'It's all good', I mean ALL. I have 3 awesome grown daughters. I'm done with the manual labor jobs and going to school to be able to bring something to the table without breaking my back. And thank goodness I am not married. I'm probably too crazy for anyone right now and that's fine with me. I only want friendship without the facade, bologna, etc. NO huge effort to impress. (Can humans pull that off?) I want to be at ease with a friend who is also at ease with himself.

I have one son who lives at home. He is 18 years old and is working full time. I retired from my job as a probation officer in December and I have been keeping my self busy by volunteering at the American Legion and going on short trips with one of my girlfiends. I have my private investigators license and not quite sure if I want to pursue that at this time. Just enjoying life for now.
I have a few things I would like to do soon. I want to taking some horseback riding lessons, go on a zipline ride, and take a trip to Alaska and another to Florida. They are the only two states I havent visited.

I do not play games and aspire to a drama free life. Enough stuff happens to us that is real without having to making sh@t up. So I am in the process of making sure my baggage (a carry-on actually) is securely stored away in the over-head compartment for your safety.
I attended college at Ohio State where I was an English major (psych minor) and love word play. I used to be a coast to coast truck driver. I have given up my CDL but I loved it. The travel and the people you meet all over the country was worth showering in public bathrooms.
I am happy with who I am inside (I admit to needing bit of tweaking) I don't need 'saving' and at the end of the day to have a good companion is the foundation to having a good life.
