Date a soulmate from California, United States. Looking for a playmate, a traveling companion, and if somehow it's a real connection - my true love...
I love live theater, food, film, coffee, chocolate. I love to cycle (but about a 12 mile max), walk in the warm evenings, and swim, or play in water. I love to sit and gaze at mountains/ trees/ water and inhale. My kayak didn't made it out of my carport last year, just one little paddle off Monteray Bay (Elkhorn Slough) in a rental. I love to walk....but my knees went out on day 3 of August trip to Lakes District (England), I am working w/ massage therapist to get them back, hiking downhill probably out for the immediate future... I read most of my bookclub books but not much else. I attend a writing group, coordinate a writing contest, and monitor a yahoo literary group. Expect to retire sometime in the next year or two. Quirky and silly amuses me. 30 Rock and 3rd Rock make me laugh out loud (yes lots of Netflix, but I don't have TV reception or cable). I think My Name is Earl and South Park provide provacative/ profound social commentary. I am currently working through BBC period series Downton Abbey. On my current travel wish-list are Iceland and China's Yunnan Provance, pending recovery of my knees; my actual travel plans for this coming year are limited to the Pacific Coast - San Diego to SE Alaska. I speak enough Spanish to get around, and still have the rudiments of my high school German. I am liberal, but mostly a-political.
I am looking for an active fun big guy, you're probably at least 6 ft tall and 220 pounds. Not sure I would recognize you when we meet. A Renaissance kindda normal guy. Construction skills and home w/ panaramic view of ocean a total plus. Maybe humble, maybe arrogant, but not pedantic. Maybe engaged in a scientific discipline. Grandkids also a plus. If you can teach me how to body surf or boggie board in a 6-inch swell, yay.
Talking about my interests sounds so much like a job application, but... my interests include landscape scale vegetation management to increase resilience of forested landscapes; and the dynamics of collaborative efforts involving local communities and respective land management agencies toward that end. My current job does not get me there, I am at the cusp of change to another job or retirement, of intense engagement or expansive time to reflect and hang-out. I am interested in plants, in seaweed and bryophytes (mosses and liverworts), in leading interpretive walks for kids, and maybe for adults in the future. My Meyers-Briggs type, for whoever pays attention to such things is "mastermind," I can't remember the acronym.
UPDATE July 2012: Knees still not good, now add twisted pelvis. still hoping to come out the otherside stronger, but am not there yet. I am swimming okay, but not walking any distances.
