I am a native Californian and have lived in the Bay Area for my whole life minus about two or three years due to college and a short stint in the Chicago area for work. It didn’t take long to figure out where the good weather was. I grew up in Los Gatos and currently own a home in San Jose, about 5 minutes outside of Los Gatos. I have one daughter who is currently attending UC Berkeley and lives in the Berkeley Hills. We often keep in touch and I pop in to see her when her schedule permits.
I work in the risk management field and am fortunate enough to work out of my home and basically pick my own hours. I’ve been in this line of business for over 37 years, working for a number of companies as well as having my own business for about 8 or 9 of those years. My work deals more with achieving results through interpersonal relationships rather than “number crunching” raw data. This fits well into my personality as I am more of a people person and enjoy the interaction with the client, be it with the President of the company or someone much lower down the totem pole.
My general personality is that of being outgoing and positive, having a quick wit and what many people have described as a good sense of humor. My friends who know me best would describe me as being intelligent, very honest and genuine, generous, loyal, and having a high sense of integrity. I make it a point to be respectful and thoughtful to all and have always tried to be supportive and act with kindness and a good heart in my dealings with others and would like to think that I have done well in that endeavor.
My career has enabled me to develop strong listening and communication skills which have also served me well in my personal relationships. I can hold my own in a conversation on most topics and always enjoy an occasional bantering back and forth. I have had enough success in my career to be very confident, and enough setbacks here and there to maintain a “grounded attitude” and an appreciation of what I have and how good life has been to me.
I am middle of the road politically (registered independent) and always vote the candidate and not necessarily holding to a party line position. My reading habits are basically non-fiction and the TV programs I watch are typically the local and world news, news type programs, documentaries, and some dramas. I don’t watch reality shows, soap operas, or “Jerry Springer” type programs.
So, what am I looking for? I would like to find my counterpart, at least in values and basic personality. One who has a good sense of humor, positive outlook, good communication skills, a good sense of honesty and integrity, and who is thoughtful of others are all part of it. I like most kinds of music except rap and opera. I haven’t really been exposed to much opera so I wouldn’t totally rule it out. It just isn’t high on my list.
