I recently relocated to the Bay Area after a long absence and am making this home again. I love traveling and learning about different cultures because it challenges my assumptions about life, my world view and encourages me to continue to grow, even when I don't want to. Experiencing novel foods has opened me to fresh culinary delights and broadened my tastes. In new situations, I attempt to suspend judgement, stay open to the experience and see where it leads. I'm hoping to meet someone who has a similar mindset and some common interests we can enjoy together.
HOW I SPEND MY NON-WORK TIME
I have an enormous about of physical energy, intellectual curiousity and am blessed with extraordinarily good health, so it's important to me to keep both my mind and my body active and challenged. I'm equally happy hauling bales of hay on my 10-acre farm in the Sierra Foothills, kayaking and sailing in the SF Bay, hiking theTahoe Rim Trail and occasionally entering running competitions, although my marathon days are long over and the only person I compete with now is myself.
Even so, relaxing with a handful of good friends and / or my family over mellow wine, complimentary food and sharing stories / laughing about how absurd life can be is one of my greatest sources of joy, mirth and writing material.
HOW I EARN(ED) A LIVING
Although my education initially was in Sociology and I'm still a sociologist at heart (people astound me!), my career went from Registered Nurse in the Teamster's Hospital in Alaska to Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner in private practice in Alaska with 5 ex-military physicians (THAT was a trip!) to a stint in academic medical research in the UC system and, most improbably, 7 years in a "Big Six" accounting firm heading a national practice that conducted non-financial audits of health care data for State and Federal governments.
I'm currently continuing to conduct these audits part time while I shift to rekindling interests that fell by the wayside while I was focused on raising a family, building a career and trying to stay sane in the process (Not sure that I was successful at that last piece...). These interests include writing poetry and essays, composing music, traveling and the luxury of extended time with friends and family.
IF I DIED TOMORROW (LIFE IS UNCERTAIN; I THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS), I'D BE PROUDEST OF:
1. My two dynamic, grounded and successful daughters and their families, including my hockey-loving grandson
2. The impact my caring and willingness to listen had on thousands of patients in the course of my clinical years
3. A year spent as a communithy organizer / VISTA volunteer in the South during the Civil Rights Movement
4. A project I sponsored through Habitat for Humanity that started out locally and now has international scope
5. A CD, including both my own compositions and songs familiar to my daughters and their cousins, that I recorded 1/12.
6. The fact that no matter what lemons life handed me, I always found a way to make lemonade!

Meet someone special from California, United States. Caring and a good friend, is what my closest friends would describe me. Life, animals, sunshine, flowers, trees, people watching make me smile.
I have accomplished two careers and was successful in both.

Positive energy, upbeat, energetic, fun loving is what I am hoping to attract. Getting together with friends, special friends, new friends at dance venues is most fun. As well as, one on one get togethers is great fun too.
Out of the mouths of babes and reactions of animals make me laugh out loud.
Friendship first, then see what happens. I am most passionate on what our world is evolving to and finding a way that there is no longer hunger in the workd for people and animals.
