Date people from United States. I'm looking for a friend who can tolerate my diverse interests and hopefully find a few that she likes too. After a long and complex professional life I need to slow down and smell the flowers with a special person. She will be self reliant and uncompromising with her own interests. She likes to be spoiled rotten. She must love animals. An interest in art, painting or sculpture would be nice. It would be nice if she played guitar or other musical instrument but not a deal breaker. I have no idea what kind of a bio will attract the person that I imagine but here goes.
I have a degree in fine art and like to draw and paint. I have 47 years as an architect and still dabble in it part time to keep my license current. I am a full member of the American Institute of Architects. (AIA). I was project architect for some really large projects in San Diego, SD Hospice, Sea World Penguin Exhibit, SD Police Headquarters, National City Police Headquarters, SD Trolley Headquarters, Reuben Fleet Space Theater to name a few. I designed and built some of my own furniture and the rest are restored antiques. I run the wood shop at the railroad museum in Campo. I have a large telescope and enjoy astronomy. I have always been fascinated with particle physics. I follow professional bicycle racing and college basketball. I am not much of a world traveler but have been to the UK (Loved Scotland! Land of my great grand parents.) and Vietnam (at government expense and no fun.). I have been to most states in the US, usually chasing old trains.
I'm not bald I just find it easy to shave my head in the shower as it saves time and expense. I have dark hair with very little gray. My late wife liked the Yul Brenner look. I don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff.
I practice guitar, mandolin and banjo an hour a day. I used to play the fiddle but have not had time to stay with it. I played mandolin in a bluegrass band for years. I like to pick and sing. I'm active in several traditional music organizations in the San Diego area. I like both kinds of music: country and western. For Jazz I like Dave Brubeck and Dixieland. Pete Fountain and the late Al Hirt were my favorite Dixieland jazz men. Beethoven is the worlds all time greatest composer. I have the complete works.
I was born in San Diego and grew up in La Mesa and El Cajon. My family has all passed away except for an elderly aunt in Denver and sisters in law in Sedona, AZ, and Arkansas. I'm grateful for 43 years married to the finest woman I could ever imagine. She had a hysterectomy at an early age so no kids. Lost her to cancer in April, 2011, saddest day of my life.
I volunteer at the railroad museum about 30 hours a week. It's all hard work but great exercise. I restored my hometown railroad depot in the heart of La Mesa built in 1894. This is the time of my life when I need to give back to the community. I'm a damn good carpenter. I'm currently working on restoring the Campo depot built in 1916. Almost done!
I have several rescued cats to take care of. I have no resistance to puppies or kittens. I support several animal rescue organizations. I had an Afghan Hound for many years. His name was Nimbus as he was snow white. A super dog that I still miss.
Most of my friends are musicians, architects or railroaders. Most have been close friends for 40 years or more.
I have a large yard and garden to take care of and not doing too good of a job at it. At least my pets have a fun place to play.
I am a Tea Party conservative, a combat veteran and a patriot.
