Date a soulmate from California, United States. At a loss for describing who i am in a personal sense except to say i am a great listener and to tell of the path(s) i have taken: Born in Chicago, raised in the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles), then left for college. I started out at Johns Hopkins undergrad (BA pre-med), started medical school but decided to go to UC Berkeley (1964 for love) and started a whole new path - architecture and planning (M Architecture) and Berkeley in the 60's. Was also in the Peace Corps in the 60's. Planning, politics, and Architecture in the 70's. Bought my place in Napa in the late 70's. In 1980 decided i wanted to learn about business, got accepted to Yale School of Management, rented out my Napa house, drove cross-country, graduated there and got hired by an investment bank in Manhattan to do real estate. Met my ex-wife there and two kids and 7 years later came back to Napa to raise the family. Marriage didn't last but i insisted on joint custody and my kids are great. Son is 27 and a director of operations for a fine dining restaurant group (BA Pomona College 06) and my daughter is an environmental economist (Princeton class of 2009) and working for a couple of years in New Zealand.
A good travel story: 6-day, spontaneous sail down the Adriatic from Venice to Corfu - 56 foot ketch - chatted with the skipper at the wharf next to St. Marks and he invited me and my girlfriend to crew - we parked the Saab in our campground tent and sailed the Adriatic to Greece then travelled all over Greece, Back to italy by ferry from Piraeus to Bari, train up the east coast of Italy with a day in Ravenna, picked up the car and drove through Italy for 2 weeks before putting the car on the deck of a passenger carrying freighter and sailing from Genoa to NYC - 13 days with a couple from Berkeley who had been on the road all the way to india for 18 months. Then across the USA to Berkeley and grad school.
The only downside to having had so many adventures and career paths is that i have no standing when i try to argue that my kids should stay close to home here in Napa.
Meet single man from California, United States. I am a retired professional engineer who likes to work on home improvement projects, and I can fix most anything around the house. I own my home, and am financially secure. I sing in a church choir and a Community Chorus. My pride and joy are my two grown children. I am physically active, take Yoga and Pilates classes, go jogging, and occasionally hiking and biking. I like relaxing and hanging around the house also, but I have to get out of the house on a daily basis, if only for a quick trip to the local Trader Joe's or Whole Foods store. I have gradually shifted my diet from processed foods to unprocessed organic foods, which I believe contributes to how amazingly well I feel. I was widowed five years ago, after a happy 39 year marriage, and I am more than ready to start a new relationship.
My ideal match would be a intelligent woman who is well-educated and has an upbeat and bubbly personality. You are sensual and enjoy public displays of affection such as holding hands. You are your own person and don't need your man to entertain you 24/7. If you are mainly looking for a tall tale teller or joker to keep you in stitches, I'm not your guy. If you are looking for someone who is a good listener, level-headed, even-tempered, dependable, loyal, and an old-fashioned gentleman, I'm your guy. My personality is laid back, congenial, self-confident and optimistic. I'm somewhat reserved initially, but will warm up once I get to know you.
I work out daily, keeping myself trim and toned. I appreciate a woman who is also slender and toned, and who dresses in flirty feminine styles (not matronly). Bonus points if you have long hair. Actually, the most important characteristic a woman can have is that she be crazy abouI me (and vice versa). I realize that in the long run, character and inner beauty are more important than physical looks, but if we don't feel mutual chemistry when we first meet, what is the point? Ultimately I want a romantic relationship, and I'm not looking for just another pen pal or platonic friend. Incidentally, I love to sing, so if you play an instrument or can sing a duet with me, that would be great but not mandatory. I should add, if a prospective partner desires to see more or less facial hair on me, I would certainly consider that.
Note: If you contact me I will respond if you've written an interesting profile and included recent photos of yourself. Please reside within a reasonable dating distance.
