Date single man from California, United States. I grew up on the east coast and since then I’ve moved around a bit for school (Virginia, Oregon, and Illinois). I finished grad school and moved here a few years ago. It's been fun so far, I hike and mountain bike a lot and I'm generally up for anything going on outside.
If I'm staying inside, I like to read - mostly non-fiction but I’ve been trying (and liking) some novels recently. Cooking is fun, too. Santa Cruz is great for trying new food. I'm a sports fan, my favorite sport/team depends on what season it is when you ask. I love going to live baseball, football, or college basketball games.
I like my job a lot. It’s challenging and I feel like I can do some good in the world with it. I’m in the environmental policy field.
I don’t have a checklist that describes someone I’d like to meet, but I do like smart women and dog-likers (I recently lost my old buddy, Edgar, a 13-year old shepherd mix).

I am champion thumb wrestler (on my block), the fastest knife in my kitchen, a master of the art of quick bicycle wheel truing, and a super maker of coffee. I do burpees pretty quickly, and I think my kettlebell swing form isn't bad. I'm pretty good at losing office supplies, but I promise I won't take yours to replace my missing ones. Dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker, but happy to call the Bay Area my home. I might be a little hammy at times, but know when I shouldn't be hammy.
I'm pretty happy about where I am now, but I also think that it's important to keep improving one's self-- I certainly don't think that anyone is ever really fully-cooked. I find my job fun and rewarding, and I take it very seriously. But really what happens after work can get so much more interesting.
I like a good story, and may be able to tell one too. I tend to geek out over certain things like fictions (science, or otherwise), post-modernity, and other less geekeable things like burgers, cherry tomatoes, men's fashion blogs, the cultures and history of punk and hip hop, the New York post-punk/new wave scene from the gritty 1980s Lower East Side, Swedish pop music, homemade ice cream recipes for my kitchen experiments, bicycles, and the Oxford comma.
I care very much about my friends and family, am loyal to them, and value their happiness. I try to understand how my actions and decisions, no matter how small, affect others around me.
I am quirky, thoughtful and other, and while I love meeting other quirkies, and other others, I would really like to meet other thoughtfuls. I really do think that generosity and magnanimity are very important-- they're things that I try hard to have (despite stumbling here and there), and I hope to surround myself with people who share a little bit of this concern. I would appreciate meeting someone who I could have a great time with: somebody with whom I'd share inside jokes, who can call me out when I'm not being funny, who might sing the silly duet at karaoke with me, or who might form a deadly dangerous team with me on trivia night. It would be nice to be in a meaningful, serious relationship, so it would be great to meet somebody who's equally interested in the same sort of thing.

I enjoy going out with friends around town as well as taking off for the weekend to explore a random new city, just because. I live and work in nature and always draw on upon it to ground me and keep me in touch with what is important to me in life.
I put family and friends very high on my priority list. I tend to put the people that I care about in front of my needs with out any forethought. Good or not, It makes me feel good to make the people around me happy before myself. I enjoy making people laugh and enjoy theirselves.

Meet a man from California, United States. Who am I? I am a professional, responsible...inquisitive kid. I am an educated surfer. I find peace in surfing, dropping in on a wave I find myself completely existing in that moment, not the one before, and not the one after, peace for a fleeting instant. I want to continue to travel the world and share my passion for life and the outdoors. I want to explore the wild places and understand the domesticated ones. I want to share these experiences with friends, family and someone special who isn't afraid to take steps into the unknown.
I enjoy what I do, solving environmental problems and building a better future for my child and his children. I've spent arguably too long in skool - UC Santa Barbara, Oregon State, and finally UC Santa Cruz. I am dedicated to life long learning. Career wise as a coastal geologist, I found a way to stay close to the "force" that inspires me King Neptune, Mother Ocean. The force is strong in me, I have been brought to tears by the smell of the salt air after extended times away. The projects I work on are ones that I would have (and still do) volunteer on 10 years ago.
I also do what I enjoy, especially if it is outdoors! I enjoy music, especially reggae, jazz, and blues. I savor organic food, BBQing, and wine all improved when surrounded by good friends. I try to live a healthy lifestyle - yoga, exercise and lots of water. I enjoy time throwing a stick for my loyal dog who is smarter than the average "honor student".
Not sure who I am looking for entirely, definitely someone who is feisty and loves adventures in the outdoors. Preferably a surfer who is passionate and educated, laughs easily, a bit naughty, and wants to make a difference. A woman who appreciates a mix of time with me, her friends and family as well as some solo time. Someone who is comfortable living out of a backpack (or boardbag), but still can get decked out, take my breathe away, and dance the night away. You have to love the ocean, the earth and love to have fun.
