Date single man from California, United States. Arete; Ancient Greek: in its basic sense, means excellence of any kind., a sport shirt, and Topsiders. In the winter, a turtleneck, sort of the Steve Jobs lo In its earliest appearance in Greek, this notion of excellence was ultimately bound up with the notion of the fulfillment of purpose or function: the act of living up to one's full potential.
Sometimes translated as "virtue," the word actually means something closer to "being the best you can be," or "reaching your highest human potential."
Arete is the word that best describes my life and desires.
A 23 year marriage ended three years ago, I have two teens, a daughter who is off to college in the fall and a son who is a sophomore in high school. I am six foot tall, weigh 185 pounds, my friends say I look like Ron Howard with more hair and no beard. I walk three to four miles almost every evening along the beach in Long Beach. I work in the banking world and enjoy the aspect of working with successful clients. I enjoy two to three books a month on various topics, most recently Steve Jobs, That Used to Be Us, Love and Respect, and the Fabric of the Cosmos.
Since I wear suits during the week you find me on the weekend in jeansok.
I am a catholic and go to church primarily as a place to reflect and think. I also attend various other religious locations with friends.
My favorite movies are action movies with my son and my all time favorites Love Story, Sleepless in Seattle, and Out of Africa. I would like to find someone who is a good story teller. Could you co-write your ideal date as a story with your partner than live it the next weekend? How would it start? Where would it end? Maybe it is a never-ending story. You just just scored major points if you would.
I enjoy conversation, so plan on staying up late talking about anything, sounds a little like my college days.
My friends would say I am funny, intelligent, too nice, passionate about life, talkative, planning (from my Boy Scout days) and loyal, but those are just words, the proof is in the doing.
I traveled a lot early in my life and early marriage, recently done the kid trips, National Park, Missions, you know the routine. I love to hike, fly fish, sail and play golf.
My Bucket list includes seeing all of the National Parks, travel the Lewis and Clark trail, hike Mt Whitney, drive route 66 from Chicago to LA, visit all of the old baseball parks..........
I am analytical, thus I like to favorite people so I can find them again and read and re-read their profile. I work and live in Long Beach, 12 blocks to work and two blocks from the beach, what could be better.
I would like to meet for friendship at first and see where things go from there.
Jim
Meet a man from California, United States. The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time. I'm looking for a partner to share that passage.
With the right woman, I'd walk hand-in-hand on the beach in Kawaii; snuggle on the couch while watching a movie; and embrace on Pont Neuf while the sun sets behind the Eiffel Tower.
My ideal partner is an independent, financially secure woman, who's grateful for life's simplest pleasures. LIke me, she's emotionally available, a fearless communicator, kind, considerate and compassionate.
As for me, I feel young in spirit and blessed by an early retirement and financial security that allows me to pursue my first love, music. I put a high premium on living healthy (love yoga, but a knee injury has sidelined me for the moment), enjoy day hiking and love to cook meals for friends with good wine and lively conversation. Breakfast in bed on your birthday? I can do that!
I don't have children and am not looking to start a family. But I am a dog person and own a beautiful Sheltie. I enjoy most things cultural like concerts, movies, theater, tv (i.e. "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad," "Luther," "Downton Abbey") and modern dance concerts. I read a lot, listen to public radio and love facts, news, trivia … making sense of the world we live in and the journey we're on.
Yes, I'm looking for a soul mate, but I'm more interested in making friends first. I was a journalist for 15 years, so I just love a good story. Maybe we can write a great story together.
Date someone special from California, United States. Thank you for checking out my profile. I am seeking a committed, romantic relationship with a woman of similar interests and matching personality. Describing oneself is not a simple task as we are all multifaceted people with personality characteristics that often depend on the situation and circumstances. However, some of my more consistent characteristics are: soft-spoken, kind and considerate, gentle in spirit and attitude (although I do get passionate about some social issues), an open and honest communicator, very inquisitive, trustworthy and trusting, and affectionate. Let's see - did I leave any good qualities out? Oh yeah, and I'm rich - with playfulness. I'll try and find the humor in almost anything and will get downright silly at times. I hope to never lose that.
Some of my favorite activities are: going to new places to kayak (I have an extra one for you), getting out of town for weekend getaways, going to outdoor concerts (and dance when possible), preferably blues or jazz fusion but I still like some of the classic rockers (although some of them should really retire); street fairs, movies, bookstores, wineries, biking, tennis, softball, family activities, and traveling to distant places. I'm open to trying anything new and sharing your excitement over something you enjoy. I certainly enjoy the quiet times as well, cozying up together to read, watch a DVD or my favorite comedy shows (Daily Show, Colbert Report, reruns of Frazier, but not much more TV than that), or just surfing on the Internet for things to learn about and share. I even enjoy shopping (within limits of course), holding hands as we view our culture's latest retail offerings. One thing I don't do is sit around and watch sports on TV. I'd rather play it than watch it. After a hard week of work I like to turn up my music and kick up my heels to my favorites - Mark Knopfler, Robben Ford, Lee Ritenour, and Special EFX. Otherwise you'll usually hear soft acoustical guitar or piano music playing in the background. I workout at the gym regularly and try to eat only healthy food. And though I don't have any right now, I love and enjoy the company of friendly dogs and cats.
I'm looking for someone who has a natural type of beauty who doesn't feel the need to spend excessive time fixing herself up to go out (unless it's a special event). Your beauty shines through an easy and quick smile and you laugh easily (especially at my jokes). You enjoy being touched to maintain the connectedness of being together and appreciate being sincerely listened to when sharing your thoughts and feelings. You listen well yourself and share my inquisitiveness about life and each other. Being on the slim, athletic side myself, I prefer someone of similar size, so keeping fit and exercising is important to you (and we know how hard that is after reaching middle age - or am I beyond that now?).
Obviously there is much more to share, but if there is anything I've written here that peaks your interest (and doesn't sound too hokey), let me know by sending an email and let’s see where it goes. If not, best of luck in your pursuit of love and companionship.
Meet a soulmate from California, United States. About the one I'm looking for...
Can I touch you there?
You know...that special place that if I have...you cannot forget. Random thoughts continually surface leaving you warm and wondering....The heart and mind are amazing and when someone touches you there...it is just unforgetable.
We can email, we can chat...but what really matters is what happens when we meet.
I am NOT attracted to overweight smokers and those who do not consider taking pride in their health and appearance...thanks for listening...franki :)
PS..if you are untouchable...please do not reply....I am attractive, romantic, successful, and confident gentleman. And if you think this little insight is about sex...then you are definately on the wrong page.
The usual boilerplate...a little bout me.
I spend time with my family (1B and 2G and 5 grandbabies). I get my play time in. I like travel. I love pool/spa time, beaches/piers... going to fine restaurants and live entertainment. I enjoy movies but would rather go to a live performance...have seen many of the Cirque shows...favorite is "O". For gym time, try to get to 24 hr fitness sport a couple times a week. I have a cross trainer Topeak Jango that is a great bike (not a Trek but works great for me). Exploring, walking the beahes and piers...just having fun....so many things to do.
Music lately has been pop...Bruno Mars, Adele, Lil Wayne...Any local live bands. I enjoy most genre.
I love Vegas...try to go a few times a year...and usually stay at the Venetian/Palazzo or Wynn.
Hmmm, think thats a start...this is a work in progress so it will be updated periodically....lol
Date single man from United States. Easy going, active, financially secure guy, looking for someone honest, energetic and fun to be with. Someone with similiar interests who is beyond the games and drama so many like to play. Someone with some degree of integrity. Ability to operate a boat or back up a boat trailer a plus. An accurate profile and a current picture would be nice. Live in San Dimas, have home and large ski boat in Lake Havasu. When weather heats up, can be found in Havasu often.
Meet a man from United States. I am considered to be outgoing, fun and can converse on almost any subject. I have taught school and have run a business. Also spent 5 years in the military as a Navy Pilot.
A relationship to me is a partner, friend and lover.
I am hoping to attract someone who wants to enjoy life without drama.
Date someone special from United States. I'm loyal, honest, generous, accepting, easy going, responsible, respectful of others, likes to have fun. I believe laughter is the best medicine. I laugh a lot, even at myself at time's. As the country (Tim MaGraw) song says, "I may be a bad boy, but a real good man".
I play a lot of golf and would like to have a partner (not a deal breaker) to play golf with; you don't have to be good, just have fun. I am a sports nut and would like to find someone who shares my interest in sports. I like the 49ers (football), Giants, St.Louis Cardinals (baseball), Laker's (basketball). I also follow the Arizona (college) Wildcats, as I used to live in Tucson, AZ.
I am retired federal (labor rep, GS-12) civil service after 30 years. I am a Viet Nam (Army) veteran.
I'm not prefect and I don't expect my partner to be prefect, just be your self. It is ok to disagree, not everyone agree's all the time. When dealing with any problem, I always look for a win/win solution.
You can ask me anything, you may or may not like the answer, but I will always tell the truth.
Martin Luther King once said, which I find very profound, and I quote, "Do not judge a man by the size of his wallet, but judge a man by the size of his character" If your looking for someone with a large wallet, I'm not your guy, but if your looking for someone with strong character and high values, I could be your guy. I agree money is important to sustain life. I just don't put it at the top of my priorities. I don't believe that assembling a huge amount of money or having a lot of toys, is the measure of one's success. Money can not buy true happiness. There is no amount of money in this world, that can buy, what two people in a relationship/marriage (love, respect, trust, caring, understanding, etc.) can generate together.
The following are very high on my list of priorities; be thankful, live simply, be kind, do your best, use please and thank you, cherish family and friends, never give up, believe in yourself, listen with your heart, help others, laugh often and love lots. The important fact regarding these priorities is, they don't cost a cent to do them.
I'm not looking for someone to take care of me. I have the means to take care of myself. As everyone know's, Federal employee retirement is very good. A great pension income, great health care, and other great benefits. I'm looking for someone to share life's adventure's with, working side by side, as equal partner's, and growing together. It is very important to me, that, at the end of the day, we can look at each other and know that we did our best, we love each other and all is well, with us. It's not about you or me, it's about we and us.
Thank you for reading this far. If we share similar interest's, send me a wink or e-mail. My best to you in your search.

. NOBAMA 2012 !
Hm mm lets see? How does one write something to attract a female bee?
Should I write something witty and politically correct?
(Warning, Liberals do not like me)
Oh HELL NO! I am originally from the east coast so dat ain't gonna happen ;-p!
I'll start with a few of my favorite quotes:
"If there's anything more important than my ego around, I want it caught and shot now!" (Douglas Adams)
"I've been on so many blind dates, I should get a free dog." (Wendy Liebman)
Knock Knock Hello hello! anyone there (crickets chirping in background)? Hm mm tough audience?
Hm mm first BLIND (kinda) date?
Note to self: Make REALLY BIG impression and bring a WHITE CANE! (oh come on ... crickets again!)
Lets try a different twist Hm-mm?
A guy was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess." He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket.
The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for a week." The guy took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to his pocket.
The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I'll stay with you and do anything you want." Again the guy took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket.
Finally the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you I'm a beautiful princess, that I'll stay with you for a week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss me?"
The guy said, "Listen, I'm a software engineer."
" I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog is soooo cool." ;-)
Thank you, your a great audience, shows at 6 and 8. ;-)
Humor aside (heh, like dat's gonna happen)
Favorite Things:
Cats with cattitude.
Motorcycle (Connie 14 n me) riding in the spring time.
Latte Art experiments
Some Final thoughts:
If you are communicating and have an interest assertiveness on your part is a PLUS by me,
I don't do wimps, know whatta mean. ;-)
Principles that cannot be evaded ergo I am guided by:
1. Reason is an absolute
2. Contradictions cannot exist
3. Pursue happiness
4. Avoid cruising on US 99! YIPES!
5. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR PREMISES! ;-)
. Smart, funny, romantic, witty, ironic, intuitive, sassy, and of course, humble guy is looking for a woman who shares the same characteristics, with additional doses of patience, understanding, telepathy, and the ability to share her common sense with one who is deficient. I'm great at cooking, cleaning, laundry (yes, even folding, hanging and putting away). And, yes, I clean the rim and put the seat down...hey, I hate those cold surprises too.
EDIT:
So here's the thing: After getting a bunch of those little advertising "nudges" about Match.com, I decided to put a profile up, and then to write to a few women that Match recommended to me. I haven't posted a picture, because we live in a small community, and I didn't want everyone to know my actions. I'm not ugly or grotesque, and I wouldn't scare anyone away if they saw me in person. Also, I'm not married or in a relationship of any kind...I'm a widower, a word I've come to dislike in the last 6 months.
If you're interested after reading my profile, just ask and I'll send you a picture with my response.
A little more about me: I was raised as an army brat, so I've lived all over the United States and in Germany. I went to 13 schools in 12 years, and on average we moved every eleven months. It seems that I was always "the new kid". That's why I'm still shy, but once I get to know you, watch out!
I was a member of MENSA, until I received an invitation to a masquerade party with the costumes being Seventeenth Century Poets. Sorry, I just couldn't go with that
I've always loved building things, and working with my hands. I've been a builder and builder/developer for, gosh I hate to say it but, for almost 40 years.
I am in an almost constant remodel of this big old Carmel Valley house, including the exterior landscaping, and I like planting vegetables in among my flowers. I enjoy combining beauty for the eyes and food for the stomach...corny and nerdy, but, hell, that's me.
I'm a strange combination of intellect and construction-loving guy, and my family and friends think of me as an absent minded professor. I read two to three books a week; history, biography, fiction, suspense, whatever catches my eye. I usually do well playing Trivia and answer most of the questions on Jeopardy. On the other hand, I never, ever, turn down friends and/or family for help in their own projects, and I do most of the repairs on our vehicles myself. I actually love getting down and dirty, but the SECOND the job is done, I'm in the shower and scrubbing my fingernails!
I write poetry, but only my very best friends know it, so please don't tell anyone. I also love to sing in the shower, the car, and of course, after a margarita or two, at a place that has karaoke.
I have a great, quick, sense of humor and inane wit. Perfect for anything from church through back yard intimate barbeques. And keep in mind, I was raised on The Three Stooges, Abbot and Costello and Laurel and Hardy.
SO. Who am I really looking for here?
Well, heck. You have to be the things I listed before. Go ahead, scroll back up and review them. The most important are intelligence and a good sense of humor, the combination of which will give you the quickness to say: "that's disgusting," as you snicker and snort behind your hand, or to say: "that's NOT funny!" as you giggle and hide your face behind my shoulder. A quick mouth and a sense of humor helped me deal with my life growing up, and all the trials and tribulations I've faced to this point in my life.
Write me if you're interested. Hey, I'm really, honestly, a shy guy. Don't wait for me to write you.
