the encounter
Its been a awhile but I decided to go for a hike. I am not sure why I wanted to go for a hike but the thought would not go away so I made my way down the drive. Most of you know the walk, one mile north turn west two more miles and then back track. As I turned west I looked out at the pastures. The horses were standing like statues, as if they were playing a game of simple Simon. No movement, they just stood
motionless looking toward the mountains.
I get to the point where I make my turn and head back home. Normally I take a sip of water and keep going but today I stopped. I leaned back against a fence post sipping my water watching the clouds and sun in a battle of who was going to control the temperature. I was getting ready to kick it into high gear for
the ranch but I heard a noise. It sounded like a sail boat turning into the wind trying to stop its forward motion.
I turn to my left and the most magnificent bald eagle had landed thirty feet from me on the sister post to mine. I almost stopped breathing, to be this close to an incredible bird of prey. He looked at me not afraid but aware. He would rotate his head to the left then to the right watching and waiting. There was a
moment when he looked right at me for a minute, it was if he was letting me know that he understood.
As I watched him I began to realize that he was not lamenting about yesterday or worrying about tomorrow. He was thinking about the moment and what was happening in the present. He had a purpose and that purpose was to be aware of everything that was happening then. After what felt like 10 minutes I heard a cry
and looked up, it was his mate. By the time I looked back down he was gone, two flaps of his wings three turns and he had joined her. No reason to sit any longer I headed back to the ranch. Made the turn to south, those horses had not moved, still playing that silly game.
To my friends, when you find yourself struggling with yesterdays events or worrying about tomorrows hurdles try to stop and think about the present, and for a moment you will feel like the eagle.

I am a true Taurus, and love my sensual pleasure, be it romantically with a woman, or watching a sunset form a beach or mountain top, or curling up under a blanket to watch a meteor shower in the mountains. But then I want to get back to work and be useful.

Over the years I have come to believe that most people are good at heart - perhaps because I have learned to be less judgmental as I have eperienced how it feels to be judged. I understand that laughter starts with being able to laugh yourself before laughing at someone else. While often a quick wit, I am careful to tread lightly on the dignity of others. I like exploring life's many adventures and drinking in all the experiences I can. I am a faithful friend and partner, and I enjoy the intimacy and friendship of knowing someone for a long time. I enjoy deeper conversations about life but I have a mischievous side which I will come out if I think it will bring out the better side of someone else. I am most comfortable living in the grey areas. I have been known go out in public and try to make a connection with a perfect stranger just to find a way to cut through their public facade and make them laugh.
