Meet a man from United States. Match isn't a great place for those who are courageous or god-forbid, unique. I find myself flipping rapidly through the pictures in a first "sexual chemistry" sort, then skim the writing trying to find some spark .. but mostly it's breakfast cereal box copy and flat, one-dimensional photographs.
My friends tell me, "It's a numbers game," They tell me you have to go for volume, intensive campaigns leading to dozens of 15 minute coffee dates. It's not so much that my friends are cynical, more that they've wised up. I find this sad and wearying. Isn't there enough marketing in the world? Do we really have to commodify ourselves for strangers?
I don't know who I'm looking for. I want to be surprised. From within a broad range of potential partners I'd like to find one human being who through unpredictable processes, fits. But that does NOT make me a "romantic". Far from it. I'm a realist with a strong intellect and hard won clarity about life.
Like most men, I'm visually oriented. But I don't scan the pics looking for physical beauty as much as what I'd describe as sanity and clarity and creativity, which to me are beautiful. I grew up near Milwaukee, Wisconsin and lived in the upper Midwest for 30 years.
I moved to Pittsburgh, PA. in 1983, attended graduate school there, and moved to the Bay area in 1992.
I've made my living as a College librarian since 1987.
I'm well-educated, well read, and consider myself to be an intellectual, but not in the pejorative sense of that word.
I like to be around people with whom I can have conversations that range wide...and can go deep.
Switching gears now:
I have a great sense of humor, and love to laugh...at myself, and the follies of Homo Sapiens.
I like to watch SNL (early shows from the 70's), Fawlty Towers (BBC), and most of Woody Allen's films.
Although I don't watch TV that much, I got totally "hooked" on: the Soprano's, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Madmen, Breaking Bad, and Damages.
I also watch LOTS of movies...nothing like eating dinner on TV trays while watching a good film!
I LOVE TO GOLF...try to play once-a-week...usually shoot in the high 70's...would love to have a female "golf buddy".
A few more things:
I love NATURE...especially the ocean...I love taking walks...love being in the desert under a full moon.
I love dogs and cats...very special creatures...cats are really Zen Masters in disguise!

I am a happy-go-lucky old-fashioned romantic who enjoys nothing more than cooking for someone special, I am in fact a cook and food writer and have a wonderful life here in Santa Monica where I enjoy my 3 adult children who live in the area and with a coterie of great friends.
