Date a man from Capitola, United States. My Brit friend advised me to emulate here on Match.com the approach they use in London on these sites - modesty and clever self-effacement. He said, "Anyone can boast about himself or get all lovey-dovey in a profile." "But," I thought, "anyone can slime himself, so we haven't gained much of a distinction here."
Well, what the hay, let's give it a try. (Despite the fact that Match.com advises, "Focus on the positive!")

I'm a lousy sleeper and sometimes that leaves me an unhappy, misanthropic grump. I look like hell in the morning.
And speaking of misanthropy, I catch myself sneering on occasion. Which is way bad..
Can be a slob. (Jeez, I hate admitting that) When there is too much entropy, I will reimpose order, only to see it disintegrate again. Frustrating, but, them's the nature of things. Ask any physicist.
I can be over-conscientious about conserving resources which means I sometimes end up inconveniencing myself to save a few drops of water.
I really could go on, but we've probably already dug too deep a hole here.
And can I find a good word or two to be said about myself?
CPR certified.

I've think I have good taste and a sense of style. Which, unfortunately, sometimes seems to have a negative valuation down here on the coast. At least in Santa Cruz. Of course, we're talking taste here. That fellow in Birkenstock's is taking pity on me.
Good sense of rhythm, was a good dancer . . . in fact I feel most alive on the dance floor.
My large, close-knit extended family has perpetuated tradition for generations. That value would be nice to find in a partner.
There are several active friendships dating back to elementary school.
The opportunity to be involved in the lives of children again sounds good to me.
Honest and self-exacting.
Adventuresome, I'm great fun on the road and get on famously with foreigners. Quite fluent in French (spent time in Geneva as a child).
My profession means much to me and I see my responsibility there as sacred. Helping others is one of life's joys. My mate should know this one.
I put a lot of effort into fitness. Always have. At least since HS.
I aim to be understanding, a good listener, appreciative that we all have our struggles, and not critical.
A great date? Here's an idea I picked up from a Match "example of a good profile": We can put together something in the kitchen, savor some fine wine, put on the mellow music, kick back and get to know each other. Couldn't have said it better myself.
As far as relationship, all I can really control is myself - to be honest, thoughtful, fun and supportive. The rest will follow.
And, oh, also, world-class cuddler. Along those lines, my dog loves me. Maybe cuz I support animal rights and avoid eating them. At least the mammals among them.
Well, that was then and this is now: On 22 August 2011 I experienced a devastating mountain climbing accident, leading to traumatic brain injury, a reconstructed left arm, and a BKA - below the knee amputation. In one sense I'm 85% of the man I used to be, and, in another, perhaps, I'm more the man than I used to be.
Wow.
Meet someone special from Capitola, United States. I am thankful every day for the life that I've been given. My greatest joy and my great strength comes from my family. Like my mother that raised me, I live each day to the fullest. I work hard, and I play hard, and sometimes, I simply relax! I like good food, and good friends with whom to share it. I love great music, and I dance like nobody's watching. I am a hopeless romantic, and writer of poetry, and small children make me smile from ear to ear. I hold open doors for complete strangers, and I like to say "good morning" and I never forget to say thank you. I am deeply passionate about my country, and I vote in every election with careful consideration given to every measure and every candidate.
If my Irish luck holds, I will be fortunate to find a woman of strength and character, intelligence and quick wit, physically fit and active, with a good degree of flexibility and self-confidence. I'm looking for someone that can cheer as loud as anyone at a football game, but also who loves being a woman, a woman secure in herself with, or without makeup.
My life is exciting and challenging, and most of all fun! And I, very much, would like someone with whom to share it.
