Date a soulmate from Arizona, United States. I'd say that my communication skills and creativity are my greatest qualities. Ironically, it used to be that I was terrified to stand and speak in front of an audience, but my career choice (see below) has mostly alleviated that fear (mostly). I'd also characterize myself as a motivated and compassionate person.
I'm half teacher, half engineer, and half scientist. I'm presently finishing Ph.D. at the University of Arizona, and I'll be starting postdoc research right after that. My work is very multidisciplinary, but in a nutshell I look at and try to improve the ways in which people interact with computers. This may sound very boring, but in practice it's not so much. For example, right now I'm working on a new technology that applies multi-touch interaction to 3D augmented reality. So, imagine being able to interact with the entire world, anywhere you look, in the same way that you interact with your iPad. I try to use these crazy ideas to solve real-world problems; I have industry/govt partnerships to explore applications in mine safety training and medical consultation.
If you've managed to get through the previous paragraph -- thanks for enduring!! Now I know we have potential, because you've got to have patience and intellectual curiosity make it this far. :-)
A few other random notes about me: I'm a pretty down-to-earth and folksy person. I tend to have a dry "read between the lines" sense of humor; I prefer complex innuendo to slapstick comedy. Hopefully if you watch South Park regularly, you can appreciate it for more than the simplistic toilet humor. Family is also very important to me, and I would describe myself as a sentimental person. Friends say I have an exceptional memory and attention to detail.
I'm originally from West Virginia and have been living in the desert since 2004. I've lived in a number of places in the US through the years -- Hawaii and Illinois to name a couple -- but otherwise I haven't traveled all that much. I go back to West Virginia, and also Virginia, often. I'm a fan of green.
I used to work out regularly, but not so much right now. I also have a lot of crazy hobbies that are on hold until I finish my dissertation (Jan/Feb).
I like good music (which for me would include groups like Floyd, Hendrix, Zeppelin, CCR, The Doors, Sabbath, Alice in Chains, Cranberries, and the occasional dose of cheesey 80s rock that I grew up with). I am a big movie watcher. I have found that down loading movies instead of going works out better.
