I enjoy traveling and have been to Europe and the far East. I try to play at least one top 100 golf courses in the country each year and have played Pebble Beach, TPC Sawgrass, etc. Pinehurst might be next.
I am blessed with some truly wonderful friends and family. Friends that are so kind and loyal that sometimes I don't know what I did to deserve them. I love children - my God kids are amazing and I am so thankful to be a part of their lives.
I'm a believer of giving back. have been a volunteer in the past for Brail Institute and a few churches working with disable kids. I also contribute monthly to Doctors without Borders. They do amazing work to improve people's lives around the world.

I would describe myself as a funny, intelligent, honest, loyal, open-minded man who is both adventurous and serious when it counts. Family and friends are very important to me, because at the end of the day that is all we have that really matters, right? Staying in shape is important to me, because what we put in our bodies (food, alcohol) must be balanced out by how we can keep it out. It is basic math: the amount of calories you consume minus the amount of calories you exercise off = the amount of fat stays on your body. I go to the gym 5 days a week. I don’t feel that I am a “gym rat”, as my workout is usually no more than 70-100 minutes per day. It’s all about what you during that time of exercising (quality) VS. a long period of exercising (quantity). I love the outdoors, since I am like most people that have to work indoors Monday-Friday 40 hours a week. I love playing beach volleyball (hence, the username “Spikerbrat”), bicycling, skiing, hiking or just walking along the beach. A day in paradise to me is playing some ball in South Mission Beach or hitting some fresh powder on the slopes in Tahoe.
I love good food and wine, not necessarily in that order. I can cook also, mostly BBQ and Italian. You don’t have to worry about cleaning up, as I can do both (I am not looking for a June Cleaver or Harriet Nelson, for those of you who can remember those characters from TV). I try to find new recipes as much as I can, as I am always exploring new meals to try. I don’t worry about failure, that is part of the fun in cooking, keep at it until you master it. I love to listen to live music, such as House of Blues, Belly Up, Cricket Amphitheatre, etc. Going to the movies or watching videos are also good ways to be entertained.
My approach to meeting women on match.com is that I want to take it slow, see if we can be friends first and see if anything develops from there. I am a laidback atypical low drama nice guy who knows what he wants. One can be a brainy introvert artist/photographer science-nerd Christain and still have a backbone and a well-defined personality. I have a bad knee so my sports life consists mostly of long walks. For friends I’m open to anyone, but for a potential mate I am going to limit myself to those who answer Christian/Protestant. I’m not a liberal, but don’t think evil is under every rock, worms are. Noses are for smelling, not looking down.
I am looking for two different things here:
First, and least, I am looking for platonic friends to hang out with to explore S. Ca. on day trips or road trips, or just a night out at the movies for a comedy or action flick. I would prefer photographers, science folks, artists, thinkers, gamers, etc. How does one say, casual friends and really convey the innocent connotation these days? My favorites would include: museums, zoos, wildlife areas, nature, science stuff, comedies, etc. I’m not a clubber or a dancer but I do like food as long as I don’t have to be choked by a tie to eat it or have it burn my tongue to a crisp.
Second I might be open to the idea of, gasp, dating and finding Miss Right. Faint! She’d have to be someone special to me and that might be you. That’s your cue to faint or run screaming for cover. The traits in a woman I’d find appealing are; smart, educated, humble, funny who is also an introverted artsie science nerd thinker type with her own backbone (yes, I said humble and backbone) who really doesn’t take herself too seriously. I’d pick the quite wallflower over the out going gregarious cheerleader. I had too much fun recently so I’m currently fighting that extra 30lb and I’d expect her to be no more than that. I’m not looking for perfection, or a perfect match but someone who’s stable with substance in mind, soul and employment and not more than 35 miles away for a real good start.
The woman of my dreams is the subject of my dreams. She is the goal of the dream and so I would want to be her goal. I have read too many profiles where the woman is looking for a facilator of her goals and missed dreams come true. For me love is about the other person, not what they can do for me. I like to take road trips (just finished one up the coast) and love good food and visiting wonderful sites with my camera and it’s nice to travel in pairs, dine in pairs, etc., but I have been in a long relationship where the other person loved being loved and that is a poor reflection for the real thing. I’d rather be alone then to pull someone into my life just so I wasn’t alone. That makes companionship, or the avoiding of loneliness the dream, not the other person. So if I read a profile where it looks like the goal is to find a travel agent, banker, dance partner, concierge, designated driver, counselor, retirement facilitator, savior from snow, etc. so that she can fulfill her missed dreams, I’ll automatically pass for a serious long term relationship.

Here’s truth in advertising for you. Although I like both, I have a mild allergy to cats/dogs. One is doable but plural pets would eventually kill me so please no “cat ladies.” My only other big item is that I work rotating shifts. That means I get a 2 week vacation each month but I work ugly hours for 3 weeks at a time including weekends, nights, holidays etc. in between.
So there I am in all my warts and wrinkles. Nudge or pass, your call.
