I am fortunate to work in mind/body medicine at a major university among fantastic colleagues, along with my private practice. Not much of a TV viewer (other than "Glee", "Smash", and news -- and re-runs of Cheers and Seinfeld), I enjoy movies and some cable, of the intriguing, educational, romantic, blockbuster, or special-effects varieties. I suppose that covers a lot of ground. I enjoy musical theater, as both an attendee and performer (not so much of the latter these days), along with concerts (rock, pop, blues, soul, classical), the aforementioned movies, dining out, long walks, comedy acts, talking about all sorts of topics -- the company is the important thing.
Additional hobbies of mine include hiking, yoga, travel, baking (cheesecakes are my specialty), meeting new people, singing, and reading. My idea of a perfect night is snuggling on the couch with a lovely human and some lovely canines (though "lovely canine" is surely a redundancy) watching a good movie or HBO show, or reading a wonderful book. I am blessed to have a beautiful home on the bluffs and most nights there are not all that many places I would rather be than at home (though perhaps at your home). That doesn't mean I never want to go out -- an easy dinner in the neighborhood is a joy. So is a day at the beach with the dogs -- or a road-trip. But I am not much for constant travel or the loud party scene. Dinner parties at our house, however? Nothing gives me more pleasure than gathering together warm and interesting people for a night of conviviality.
More about me: I was a semi serious musician for a while, and I worked in television news for a while. I have hosted radio talk shows. Now I write about animal rights - I have a blog, newspaper articles and a beautifully reviewed recent book on the issue. It is nice to feel that I have found my calling.
While I have that serious side, I am also warm and poised and friendly -- definitely a smiler. And super playful -- love to giggle and be merry, perhaps over a lovely Cotes du Rhone or Hendricks martini, and embrace the joie de vivre. If my date doesn't drink I am just as happy with a near-beer.
My perfect match is smart, beautiful, accomplished and kind. I write "accomplished" because as I am accomplished and well-known in my field I have noticed that I tend to be both attracted to and attractive to men who are similarly so. But I am not sure that's a deal-breaker. So many unexpected variables go into making a relationship work -- or not.
I do think his interests probably lie beyond having a good time -- there is a good chance that he is actively involved in trying to make a difference in this world. Or that idea appeals to him, even if he isn't doing all that much yet. If offering me loads of warm support and encouragement in my quest is his way of contributing, that could work too.
He'll be romantic -- now and five years down the line. I will never wear flannel pajamas and he'll never treat me as if I'm wearing them.
He'll love that for the sake of our earth I often shop at the Salvation Army yet generally look like a million bucks. If he wants to buy me an occasional gorgeous dress at a beautiful boutique for the pleasure of showing me off in it I am open for that too.
He is funny.
He is affectionate. After the loving he'll wrap me in his arms and hold me close all night long. He will sleep best that way. And he'll love sitting and having coffee or tea together in bed in the morning, and laughing and talking and whatever.
He takes care of his body.
If he has kids I will be thrilled and will hope to consider them part of my family, and I know he will feel the same way about my canine kids.
He is probably well read and there is a good chance he has high-brow taste in literature and films and art. But that is not a must.
There is one must -- he must be kind. Compassion is the measure of a man.
It would be lovely if he were vegetarian or vegan. He'll certainly respect my vegan lifestyle and enjoy sometimes going out for hot sake and avocado rolls at the local sushi bar or gorgeous middle Eastern platters or veggie Thai food. And he'll be delighted by the vegan gourmet feasts I conjure up for him -- and for whomever we are entertaining. If he is so committed to meat that he needs it at every meal then I worry that we might not work -- it would take a lot of physical attraction to overcome that one!

I'm athletic lite but soft and feminine, high energy but love slowing down, cozying up in front of the fire with my sweetheart...and then, well, makin’ our own fire together. Avid fan of film, theater, live jazz and world music. My down-time default is reading – fiction, history, philosophy, just about anything that breaks the mind’s barriers or just makes me lol. I'm charitable, tho' allergic to the board/committee thing. I enjoy travel and free-falling into different cultures. I'll try most anything new so long as I look only slightly foolish and come out mostly alive. I am authentic and gently direct. And personal growth? It's 1 step forward, 2 steps back. In stormy weather, after the panic, I try to get thru with compassion, forgiveness, heartfelt support and trustworthiness - it’s just how we were raised. I practice some Jewish traditions and mainline Jewish and other spiritual learning. The real-life wisdom that has shaped me most, though, has come from my own false steps, a few priceless people and a few gemstone universal truths..which I get and forget...over and over.
