Last year I drove 2000 miles to set up an English program for the Desarrollo Integral de Familia (DIF) in a small border town in Tamaulipas. ItРІР‚в„ўs these experiences that make me value my own community more. I try to show it by volunteering for Make A Wish and for political campaigns during election season.

You buy Girl Scout cookies. You give your aunt a ride to the airport even though it’s an hour away and her flight leaves at 7am because you’re dedicated to helping out family when they need it. You open doors for me. You’re not embarrassed when I give you a Champagne Room dance. (Don’t pretend like you don’t know what that is). I hide little notes for you reminding you how important you are to me. We go surfing together.
