Date someone special from Claremont, United States. I am finishing up a PhD in positive psychology at the ONLY university in the world that offers one in this field (Claremont Graduate University). Instead of looking at the deficits in human behavior, I look at the various facets of what is RIGHT WITH PEOPLE. I research things like optimal environments for adolescents to thrive, how exercise enhances well-being for people of all ages, and flow theory which is much like "runner's high" but isn't limited to runners. I work with adolescents and athletes (leisure and elite) and teach psychology courses as an adjunct faculty member (CSU-San Bernardino and Mt. SAC).
The things we most regret are those that we HAVEN'T done, so I like to think I'm a willing participant in the more fun and interesting things in life. Just because I am an academic, doesn't mean I don't know how to let loose and have fun!
I just purchased a new motorcycle and can't wait to drive it up the coast!
I moved to SoCal in August of 2008 from Illinois to attend grad school. I absolutely LOVE it here, as do my kids (14,16,18). It is HOME. My oldest daughter is going away to college this fall (UC-Santa Cruz!! Go Banana Slugs!).
If I haven't lost you yet because I'm in my mid 40s and still in grad school...well, good! I realize it is a bizarre journey at this point in life, but one I have chosen, I'm glad for it and grateful it was an option after staying home to raise my kids for many years. I believe those cliches that talk about following your passion, living life to its fullest, and that it is never too late to chase a dream. If you are looking for a woman who is ready to hang up her career or retire, that wouldn't be me. I'd love to travel with you, and with the right man I will do it with joy, but a life with purpose is incredibly important and I feel I haven't fulfilled mine yet, so balancing the two is vital. Fortunately, a career as a professor allows me to travel over spring break, winter break, and summer break!!!!
Staying fit and active is important to me, and I would prefer to be with someone like minded. I also enjoy a good concert, dancing, movies, traveling, and going to art galleries or museums. I'm just as comfortable in a swimsuit as I am getting dirty in my running clothes or throwing on a formal dress and heading out to a charity function.
What I am looking for:
A man who is smart enough to hold a decent conversation yet funny enough to avoid putting me to sleep!
A guy that appreciates spontaneity and adventure but won't call me for bail money.
A guy that is in touch with his sensitive side but won't steal my underwear for himself.
How about someone who is passionate about life and really looks like his RECENT and UNTOUCHED photos?
Not that I think I am asking too much, but just a bit more .....
I want someone who takes care of himself, makes steam rise from within me when I see him and likes the way I look without giving me a referral to a local plastic surgeon for maintenance work. : )
