Meet someone special from United States. I'm Italian (mostly) and feel sometimes stranded in Alabama, where I currently live. I seem to often find myself in strange new countries. I was born in Lebanon, grew up in Nigeria, went to school in Italy and in the US, and now live in the deep American south. I have good friends in many of these places, but I don't see them as often as I wish. I'm a teacher, and that enables me to live in Rome (which is home to me) for three or four months a year. That's what makes me feel I can live almost anywhere the rest of the time.You learn to become self-reliant, but it would be nice to have someone to laugh and go on trips with.
I first came to the States decades ago, to start my Master's and then stayed on for a Phd. I lived in Boston for a few years, in DC for another few. Then I started teaching and have lived between wherever I happen to be in the States and Rome since then. I can relate and talk to most people, and I frequently do. I often strike up conversations with strangers and then listen to their life stories, out of sheer curiosity.
A sense of humor is always a sure sign of intelligence, I think. I enjoy witty conversation. But I enjoy even more people who know when to stop being witty and say something authentic, personal; with whom it is easy to feel a connection; whose company is easy, comforting, and funny.I like people who are patient, who can teach. I am sometimes outspoken; I like it when others are not quick to take offense, but laugh instead.
I've read a few profiles and many insist that they are "just an ordinary guy" looking for someone similar. I'm not sure what that means, but I'm pretty sure I don't qualify. I'm not going to try and pass myself off as one. I laugh easily, and am upbeat and cheerful (most of the time, at least). But I probably don't share similar ideas as most of those whose profiles I've read about what "having fun" entails. There's a cultural difference maybe (I always resort to that explanation when I can't find a better one). I think I am mostly looking for intelligent friends to enrich my life.
