I enjoy riding my bike, walking on the beach, kayak surfing, tennis, golf, volleyball and yoga. She was a wonderful role model for the very best of womanhood. She loved road trips and we had many fun times together, including one back to Wisconsin when I was 16. From my father I inherited a spirit of adventure. He raced motorcycles before discovering the more subtle completion of sailing.
I’ve sailed most of my life but beyond sailing I'm also passionate about music, whether it's listening to old rock, dancing to slow blues or zydeco or playing my mandolin. I love animals (I'm somewhat vegetarian), and kids (seeing things for the first time through their eyes).
As for travel, I've made two solo cross-country motorcycle trips, one through Mexico and another to Sturgis on a self-built custom bike (no, not a Harley, that would have been too easy). I’ve sailed on both U.S. coasts and Mexico in my own boats or professionally as a delivery captain. I’ve led self-contained bicycle tours and recently gotten back into bicycling for exercise, camaraderie, and fun. I would love to do an extended tour of Europe via bicycle or motorcycle or the French canals via boat – but not solo.
I'm a pretty high-energy guy and I like doing many things, life is short. But I am also very content spending quiet times and simple pleasures with my partner. I always treasured coming home to my partner, cooking us a nice dinner and watching the sun set, enjoying a movie, or quietly reading together.
I was married for 18 years (read: ability to bond and commit), divorced (I will never again take a relationship for granted) and it was another 18-years before I found another true love. I retired and we moved here from the Bay Area with dreams of “sailing into the sunset”. Sadly, she passed away last year, so the dream now is a bit fuzzy, like an unfinished canvas. Only time will help me find the right colors; will you be the one to help me finish this life’s work?
I’ve learned that compromise is essential in happy relationships. I know what I like but I’m not always right, and it’s rarely all that really important – if it is I’ll say so. Is this the hill I’m willing to die on? Do I want to be right or do I want to be happy?
