Date people from Sacramento, United States. Why do I suddenly have the feeling that I should have gone into marketing instead of law? So, I asked my sister how she would describe me. She talked me into signing up for this, so she owes me. According to her, I'm the "total package." I'm smart, funny, caring, romantic, responsible, sensitive, trustworthy, and clean up after myself. I have other sisters, but that sounded so good I decided to stop there. If I add "reverent" I think I would qualify for a merit badge. Too bad I got kicked out of the Boy Scouts when I was a kid!
Ok, so maybe my sister is biased. I'd just say I'm a good guy, newly single for the first time in a long time, and looking for a progressive and independent woman who is bright, curious and enthusiastic about life and wants to start a new journey with an equal partner to see if we can help each other try to figure it all out one of these days. If not, we can at least have fun along the way, keep growing, try to live fully, and become who we are in whatever time we are given on this wild little ride. The algorithm on this site seems to indicate that you don't exist, but I refuse to believe that.
What I find attractive is kindness, compassion and caring about people and the planet, trying to live simply with a sense of respect and gratitude and wonder, and finding joy in small things. I am optimistic by nature, playful (ok, sometimes a little goofy), energetic, intelligent, romantic, communicative (hey, I'm a lawyer: high verbal test scores, low spatial), laugh easily (often at myself), not afraid to cry, slow to anger, work hard, interested in spirituality, might be nerdy if I were smarter, domestic but get restless for adventure, dedicated community gardener, sort of a slow foodie but more concerned about food justice than elitism, knowledgeable about wine, decent cook (thank you Mark Bittman), coffee freak, known to dance in the kitchen (even if I dance like a white guy), favorite uncle, don't embarrass myself at karaoke if I stay within my range, keep fit, and mostly maintain normal levels of sanity. Some people are called "old souls." I like the sound of that; very calm and wise. If there is such a thing, I'm more of a young soul -- a bit confused but content to ask questions and keep exploring without needing to have all the answers, even if I do feel compelled to keep questioning.
What makes me a little weird I suppose is that I don't watch TV. I mean, at all. Not even sports. (Well, except for a few games of the women's World Cup last summer.) Any other strange quirks I should reveal? Let's see, I drive a boring old car even though I can afford a new one. I'd rather take my bike or walk. I've lived in Sacramento for 10 years but rarely feel the need to leave the grid except to get out of town.
Things I don't understand (partial list): Las Vegas, Fox TV, right-wing Christians, recreational shopping, SUVs, vampires, golf, Twitter, "motor sports," shoe fetishes, McMansions, horror movies, reality shows, video games, sports bars, celebrity gossip mags, colored contact lenses.
Some things that make me smile: old people dancing, overweight people at the gym, kids who take your hand when you're walking.
A few of the things I haven't done yet: sailing, skydiving, Nepal/India/Thailand, via de Santiago, study Spanish, rock climbing, start playing the guitar again, win the Nobel Prize for poetry (or just get published), climb Kilimanjaro (or at least Shasta), understand string theory, stamp out injustice, gain enlightenment.
