Date people from Long Beach, United States. How difficult it is to describe myself and suggest what I'm looking for. I am definitely looking for a guy who makes me think and laugh. A man who is curious, sensuous, tactile, and wanting to share ideas and experiences sounds good. A Fella who is introspective and sensitive, but not a doormat, adventurous, but not reckless, strong, but not unfair and likes to share, but is not smothering, would be super. If you have a passport, that's icing on the cake. You are now thinking "what a fantasy", right? Well . . . Of course. But, SOME of those attributes would be very welcome.
I am long divorced, newly retired, and recently relocated to Long Beach from Northern Ca. My childhood was spent in rural Colorado, my teens in the San Gabriel Valley, my 19th year in Germany and most of my adult years in Sonoma Co. I'm not sure where I belong but find I am liking LB just fine.
I love to travel, both out of country and in, but find local drives and just walking around in LB fun also. I've a bit of a fireman personality and like equal amounts of excitement and downtime. I'm crazy about live theater and all the arts, though not well schooled. I probably read equal amounts of non fiction and fiction (mostly mysteries). I find a swap meet or county fair just as entertaining as the theater. I like cooking, gardening, most music, movies ( old and new), good conversation, and love my family. I'm a proud mother of three and have seven grandchildren. Five live in Northern Ca. and two live in Thailand, but I can claim a close relationship with all.
My career years as a psychotherapist were mostly spent as a sedentary workaholic. I began a lifestyle change a couple years ago that sees me eating more healthily, though I'm not such a fanatic that I ever pass up chocolate ice cream or a nice glass of wine. I usually walk, hike, or swim 4 or 5 times a week and look forward to new activities. I've still a few pounds to shed but they will disappear like the others - slowly and without a crazy rigid diet. I'm well educated which means I'm aware of how much I don't know! I'm also a critical thinker and definitely opinionated, but willing and able to change my mind and compromise when faced with evidence contrary to my belief. I have about zero tolerance for bickering and drama, preferring to talk things out or at least agree to disagree. Most things aren't worth arguing over.
I was raised Catholic but the last twenty five years resulted in a slow evolution to a position of a non believer. I am, however fascinated by religion and how it defines culture and politics. It can't be surprising that I'm also fairly liberal. I consider travel outside the US to be the most important aspect of my education although I have an advanced degree. Friends consider me to be painfully honest, but kind, even tempered, though passionate, emotionally strong, optimistic, loyal, tenacious, creative, and funny. I see some contradiction there but thats what they say! My children often suggest I'm a bit off my rocker but the grandchildren think I'm second only to Santa. My favorite time of day is morning, but I can stay up late also. I have never smoked and have a low physical tolerance for alcohol so am a complete failure at the bar scene. Two drinks and I'm silly, three drinks and I'm sleeping. I'm also a lousy dancer but am willing to try.
I believe all relationships are based on mutual respect and trust. Humor, good communication, some common interests, some interesting differences and surprise, make relationships rich. But, attraction and sensuality make them MAGIC. Why shouldn't we have it all after the years of working and child raising?

I am monumentally grateful for friends who I hold close to my heart, a loving family and a beautiful home.
