Date a soulmate from United States. After going out with some friends yesterday, I was told I need to be more proactive about this dating thing. So here I am!
I think I'm your pretty average guy. I've been a high school bio teacher for the last 6 yrs, with the last 2 teaching in Berlin, Germany. It was an amazing experience, but we can talk more about that later =). I moved back to Pasadena in July and I'm loving everything about being home; getting to hang with family and friends, and eating tons of great food!
Here are a few random things about me:
-I try to workout as much as possible, but I'm definitely guilty of enjoying a lazy day too. I recently joined a crossfit gym, so that's been better at motivating me to stay in shape (I promise I'm not a meathead though!)
-I'm a sucker for romantic comedies. You name it, and I've probably seen/own it. If you don't like Love Actually, we're probably not gonna get along.
-Musically, I'm all over the place, depending on the setting. A few artists that are in my current rotation: Bon Iver, JayZ&Kanye, Mumford&Sons, Mayer Hawthorne, The XX, Vampire Weekend (Sadly I only have a 6disc changer in my car, so I only get 6)
-I love cooking, but I hate doing dishes. A dishwasher is a must for me (the kitchen appliance, not the partner). I have zero baking skills though.
-I'll admit I'm a bit shy on first encounters with people I don't know. Obviously this doesn't lend well to being a single guy trying to meet new people, but I really open up quickly once I know you a bit.
In terms of what I'm looking for..... who knows! I think that's why we're all here; to go on a bunch of dates and hopefully find someone that makes you light up. I guess the fun of finding the right one is about seeing the qualities of a partner that you never thought were so important.
What I do know, is that I need communication. We have to be able to talk freely and openly about what we think. As a guy, I'm definitely guilty of doing things wrong, but call me out on it and we're gold.

Meet a man from California, United States. I’m a VERY recent transplant to the LA area, I moved here from Hong Kong and spent basically my whole adult life living in Asia, so it’s a bit of an adventure coming home. I like it here so far, but I miss the teeming craziness of Asia. I don’t know a soul here, so I’m open to meeting anyone – romance would be great, but I don’t believe you can predict it, especially not on paper, just have to meet great people and see if there’s a mutual pull…
A few things important to me:
Music – I’m a classical guitarist, just an amateur but I practice every day and take it very seriously. Partly because that’s how I am, partly because I love playing, learning the music, composing, the whole process. I play some of everything, but my special interest is in renaissance and early baroque music, there’s a sweetness and melancholy passion in it that really touches me.
Work – I work very hard, not really because I need the money anymore, more because I love the challenge, the process of building something. I have a small partnership with two other partners, we do basically whatever we’re interested in at the time, lately it’s been buying small companies and helping them grow. It’s great working with people who’re passionate about making something, and helping them get there. It’s also great not working for anyone but myself.
Books – I love reading and books, it’s always been one of my great passions. I’ll read fiction, non-fiction, history, literature, sci-fi, old books, new books, everything! I try to make time to read every day, even when I’m busy. I don’t watch TV, I don't even own one, not because I’m philosophically opposed or anything, I just prefer to read.
Friends – I’m the kind of guy with a small number of very close friends, more like family, rather than lots of acquaintances. They’re so spread out now (all over the world!) I don’t get to see them as often as I like, but I always make time to stay in touch and see them when I can.
Martial Arts - I do a style of kung fu focused on generating power through relaxation and body structure. It's helped make me much more healthy and relaxed, both physically and mentally. Before starting, I never would have thought you could change your body just by thinking (for a long time),but now I do.
I’m open-minded about who to meet, I’ve never had one �type’ of friend or lover. Intelligence and accomplishment are sexy, but so is warmth, sureness, happiness. I’m looking forward to meeting people here, let’s see what happens!
