Date a man from Alabama, United States. I am an easy going and fun loving person. I enjoy the beach, taking a drive through the mountains, cooking out with friends. I also enjoy Alabama football and riding my motorcycle, (and no I do not have long hair or earrings). I have four beautiful grandkids whom I love very much. I am looking for friendship first, someone I can take to dinner, show, dancing or just staying at home watching a good movie on tv. I believe friendship has to come first before you can have anykind of a rel eationship. I am looking for that special someone to be friends with and then see what develops.
Meet single man from Alabama, United States. I’m a single white male with a full head of salt/pepper hair 195 pounds, six feet tall with blue eyes a goatee and mustache. Well traveled and educated (BS, MS and PhD). I bike an average of 250 miles a month, compete in bike races if they aren’t too far away. I was a sponsored rider by Wal-Mart for four years – not any longer. In general like to keep fit. I enjoy hiking and a little weight lifting as well.
For me communication, humor, compatibility and a shared vision of the future are the characteristics of what in my mind is the basis for a finding my other half. I find intelligence a very attractive quality - I listen more than I talk – do rather than watch – think before I speak or do.
I’m a retired marine biologist and spend a lot of my time exercising, writing, reading, watching movies and trying my hand at making furniture among other things. I write a newspaper column on marine and environmental issues for a group of seven local newspapers. I had a TV show called 'Ecobites' for three years on a local cable channel. I've started the process of self-syndicating my newspaper column and I freelance for Gannett newspapers.
I talked about regional and global environmental issues from various sites on the Gulf of Mexico.
A five years ago I created a BLOG from my old traditional web site and I have been posting my columns plus other items on it. It has been evolving in a new direction the last few of months and I think I like it.
I'm from Connecticut originally but have lived and travel over most of the US. I lived in Japan when I was in the Navy. I have travel to England, Canada, Mexico and Trinidad / Tobago for lecturing or pleasure. I've wanted to move to Oregon once I sell my house for several years now. That has not happened in five years, may not happen for some time yet and if I meet her it may never happen.
I lived in Eugene, Oregon in 1980 for a few months and loved it. There are part-time teaching slots open at U. of O and I'll try and get in. I'm open to other areas in the northwest but I'm focused on being involved with a college and in a university town.
Writing something like this is difficult because it ends up sounding like a shopping list. So, I’ve put some of my feelings into words. I hope you find them worthy of your consideration.
The woman I seek is at peace with herself – she looks forward in her life. She looks back only to learn the lesson - whether for good or bad and moves on. Blame is not given only solutions sought. She forgives herself as she forgives others. She’s comfortable in blue jeans or gown and does the intellectual and physical equally well. Can drink beer with the boys or Champagne with the gentry. She looks for reasons to do something, not to avoid it. Love of life and learning color her day. Romance and passion rule her night. For her love is a candle in the darkness that she seeks before time fades it. Giving up is not in her nature.
Besides columns on science and biology I write a little poetry when the muse is upon me. Let me know what you think of the following one:
- Finding what was lost -
When we lose our family we are driven to find another. Whether they are of our blood or not it doesn't matter.
We search for them in bars, sports arenas and shared effort. And if, by these endeavors, we find them or not we make ourselves whole again.
Through the dreams of the young for what might be or the memories of the old for what might have been, they are with us.
We walk in their shadow, taking comfort in the shade.
I hope you enjoyed it.
